Frostburg Fire Department We proudly serve a diverse population which includes protecting the 5000+ students and faculty that attend and work at Frostburg State University.

We also respond to incidents in the surrounding communities, assisting the neighboring fire rescue departments in the Clarysville, Mt. Savage, LaVale, Midland, Shaft and Finzel areas. The FFD is composed of two stations with a primary response area of approximately 5 square miles and a population of over 15,000. We currently operate four types of apparatus to handle the emergencies and incidents that occur in the area; a heavy rescue squad, an aerial ladder truck, two (2) front-line engine companies and a basic utility truck for support needs. The rescue squad, which carries up to 6 firefighters, primarily responds to motor vehicle collisions in the greater Frostburg area, including the 12 miles of busy Interstate 68 corridor, which connects Hancock, MD to Morgantown, WV but also to structural fires to carry out search and rescue duties. The aerial ladder truck, with a 105' foot rear-mount ladder and capacity for 6 firefighters, is dispatched to structure types ranging from single story houses to garden apartments to multi-story high-rises. Two Class A fire engines respond on almost all calls to provide fire suppression and we also operate a brush/utility truck and a chief's command vehicle.

NOTICE: đźš«Parking Restrictionsđźš« Please refrain from parking on Main Street in active work zones in the area of Grant Street west to Water Street on Monday, August 24, 2026 and Tuesday, August 25, 2026 from 8PM to 6AM for paving. Plan accordingly and thank you for your cooperation! Details from SHA are below:

The State Highway Administration will be performing patching on US 40ALT (Main Street) from Grant Street west to Water Street. Crews will be working Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25 from 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. daily. Motorists should expect single lane closures and a flagging operation. A parking restriction will be in place nightly throughout the project. This project is expected to be complete by 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, weather permitting. SHA’s contractor partner Belt Construction, Inc, of Cumberland, MD, will be performing the work and will use signs, cones, and flagging to navigate motorists through the work zone. Please slow down, stay alert, and drive cautiously through the work zone.

Today, FFD Truck 26 attended live fire training hosted by the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Rescue Department (EGCVFRD).

This invaluable training allowed new members to work on roof operations and interior Truck Company work.

Suffolk County Sheriff Corporal Brett Martin, 51 was struck and killed assisting a motorist.
