Financial Aid 101 Night
Thank you to all the Class of 2027 families who joined us for last night's Financial Aid 101 meeting! We had an informative session covering state aid, local promise funding, and local scholarships.
Here are the key highlights from all 3 areas presented:
1. Michigan Dept. of Education & State Aid (Steve Do)
State & Federal Aid: Learn how to maximize aid options by filling out the FAFSA early (FAFSA is required for all state grants!).
Key Programs: Includes the Michigan Achievement Scholarship and Tuition Incentive Program (TIP).
Action Steps: Both students and parents should create an FSA ID and set up a MiSSG Portal account to track state awards.
2. Muskegon Area Promise (Lindsay Pulsipher)
Tuition & Fee Coverage: Provides funding for tuition and mandatory fees at Muskegon Community College or Baker College of Muskegon.
Stipend Support: Promise Scholars can earn up to $1,500/year ($500 per term) in attendance-based stipends.
Requirements: Residency within Muskegon Area ISD boundaries, qualifying high school GPA/class rank, annual FAFSA completion, and yearly Promise acceptance.
3. Community Foundation for Muskegon County Scholarships
One Easy Application: Access over $1 Million+ in local scholarship funds for trade certificates, 2-year degrees, or 4-year bachelor's degrees through one single application at muskegonfoundation.org/scholarships.
Promise Student Option: Great for students continuing to a 4-year university after completing their Promise credits!
Important Deadline: Application, transcripts, and FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) are due by January 21. (Note: Be sure to use a personal email address, not a school email!)
