ROOKIE RESPONDER: THE SEQUEL — Ride Smart. Ride Safe!

The Fulshear Police Department is considering a FREE, interactive safety class for kids and parents focused on e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motorcycles.

Learn about Texas laws, age restrictions, protective gear, and safe riding habits to help keep our young riders safe.

Location: Fulshear City Hall / Police Department
Duration: One hour or less
Cost: FREE
Parents or guardians must attend with their children.

Parents, we need your feedback! Would your family be interested in attending? Comment YES or give this post a thumbs-up to let us know! Your input will help determine whether this new class becomes a reality.

Let's work together to keep our kids safe!

ROOKIE RESPONDER: THE SEQUEL

Ride Smart. Ride Safe.

Parents, we're considering a sequel to our highly successful Rookie Responder class, and we want your input.

The Fulshear Police Department's Rookie Responder program has educated more than 9,500 teenagers and parents about what to do when being pulled over by law enforcement and the extreme dangers of distracted driving.

Now, we're considering taking Rookie Responder a new direction, focusing on a growing safety concern in our neighborhoods: children riding electric scooters, electric bicycles, and electric motorcycles. (Don't worry, we will still be teaching the original Rookie Responder class, this will just be an additional class taught once a month)

These devices are becoming increasingly popular among younger riders. While they offer fun and convenience, they also present serious safety concerns, responsibilities, and legal considerations that many children and even their parents may not fully understand.

Our goal is simple. Educate children, empower parents, and prevent accidents before they happen.

We're considering offering a FREE, fast-paced, interactive safety class specifically designed for younger riders and their parents.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Captain Mike McCoy, Fulshear Police Department

Officer Jennifer Edmonds, Fulshear Police Department

A possible special appearance by K-9 Blu

WHAT WILL WE COVER?

Know the Difference: Understanding e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motorcycles and why their classifications matter.

Know the Law: Fulshear city ordinances, applicable Texas laws, age restrictions, and where these devices can legally operate.

Safety First: Helmets, protective equipment, visibility, and responsible riding habits.

The Dangers: Speeding, distracted riding, unsafe operation, and the potentially life-changing consequences of accidents.

Neighborhood Safety: Navigating streets, intersections, sidewalks, and areas where pedestrians and vehicles interact.

Parents, Know Before You Buy: Christmas is around the corner, understanding the capabilities, classifications, and potential dangers of these devices before purchasing one for your child.

Real-World Scenarios: Practical safety lessons that could prevent serious injuries and save lives.

CLASS DETAILS

Location: Fulshear City Hall / Police Department

Duration: One hour or less, depending on questions

Cost: FREE

Attendance: Parents or guardians must attend with their children.

Format: Fast, informative, interactive, and educational.

No lengthy lectures or complicated presentations. Just straightforward information that children and parents can understand and put into practice.

We don't want to discourage children from enjoying these devices. We want to make sure they understand the rules, recognize the dangers, and develop safe riding habits.

Because sometimes the most important safety equipment isn't something you wear. It's what you know.

PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK

Before scheduling our first class, we'd like to determine how much interest exists within our community.

Is this something you would be interested in attending with your child?

Whether your child already owns an e-bike, e-scooter, or e-motorcycle, or you're considering purchasing one, we want to hear from you.

Please comment below and let us know if your family would be interested in attending. Your feedback will help us determine whether to move forward with scheduling this new ROOKIE RESPONDER: THE SEQUEL - Ride Smart. Ride Safe.

We've already reached more than 9,500 teenagers and parents through our original Rookie Responder program. Now we're considering bringing that same commitment to education and safety to an even younger generation.

A thumbs up, like or simply t he word yes, will help us to move forward.

Thank you all for your continued support. We have your back and we know you have ours.

Eagle Landing Park fields have been rented 459 times since the start of this year. October has been our busiest month so far, with 71 rental requests. While we love seeing our fields get so much use from our community, we also know they need a little rest and recovery.

Starting November 17, all of Eagle Landing Park will be temporarily closed. During this time, our parks and maintenance crews will be performing maintenance and giving our fields a much-needed break.

The parks will reopen December 6.

Please adhere to all park closure barricades and posted signage during this time. Thank you for your patience. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to healthier fields!
