PRESS RELEASE
Nichols Street and Nichols Street Parking Lot Reopen to Limited Traffic
Following receipt of an initial inspection report from the structural engineer retained by the property owner, Nichols Street and the Nichols Street parking has been reopened to limited vehicular traffic.

The engineer's preliminary assessment states “there does not appear to be an immediate concern regarding the overall stability of the remaining structure, and therefore the east side of S. Nichols Street can be reopened to traffic.”

Additionally, the City has issued a 10-day nuisance notice to the property owner requiring the removal of debris from the sidewalk and adjacent public right-of-way in accordance with City ordinances.

The property owner is working directly with affected tenants regarding their individual circumstances and needs.

On-street parking will remain restricted in the immediate area of the collapse. Motorists are asked to obey all posted signs and traffic control devices.

On June 17, 2026, the Fulton Fire Department responded to a reported structure collapse. Upon arrival, crews found that a portion of a privately owned building had collapsed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The property owners are currently working to secure a structural engineer to conduct a detailed assessment of the building and determine the cause of the collapse.

For public safety, the 500 block of Nichols Street will remain closed throughout the weekend. We ask the public to avoid the area and refrain from crossing any barrier tape.
