The newly-adopted Alabama Library Bill of Rights.

In a historic step, the Alabama Library Association has adopted an Alabama-specific Library Bill of Rights. Created by Alabama library professionals, the Alabama Library Bill of Rights (ALBoR) uniquely reflects Alabama librarians’ values and commitment to practicing constitutional librarianship.

We encourage everyone to read the document in full on our website. For questions or media inquiries, please Message us here.

5 points if you remember this store, 10 points if you know where it was located and 20 points if you can name something your family had that came from this store.

Video from Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association’s Memorial Day program Monday of Craig Scott, Gadsden Public Library Director portraying George Frank Towers. Mr. Towers was a Gadsden Policeman and unfortunately, the first casualty of World War II from Gadsden and Alabama. He was killed on October 31, 1941, when the U.S.S. Reuben James was bombed. Clarke Scott (brother of Craig Scott) is the gentleman who led the singing of the song “The Sinking of the Reuben James” by Woody Guthrie.

Boys waiting to be weighed in at the Soapbox Derby race in July 1964. Anyone know where this took place? I seem to remember a race on the Piedmont Cutoff sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Support your local library!!!

We were about $6,999,999 short on funding for a Super Bowl ad with this same message, but maybe if everyone shares it, we will reach the same number of people?
