Etowah County Conservation District
Working to conserve our natural resources so future generations can enjoy the same Etowah County and Alabama the Beautiful we know and love.
For nearly 80 years, Etowah County Conservation District has committed to conserving Etowah County's natural resources by connecting those who use and work the land to the education, technical know-how, and resources they need. This stewardship revived the landscape from the devastation of the 1930s and continues to improve quality of life for all Alabama citizens. The Etowah County Conservation D

Etowah County Completed Project:
"Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan (PPVF) & Attack Monitor"
Jones/Nordgren
Ballplay Bend Volunteer Fire Department received funding to replace the dysfunctional gas-powered PPVF with an updated battery-powered PPVF for adequate firefighter operations. The new PPVF is only 46 pounds, so one firefighter easily operates it; it is also quieter, providing a much safer fire ground. The electric fan also produces no exhaust, so it can be used in rehab operations following a fire to cool firefighters. The old one could not do that due to the carbon monoxide and other exhaust fumes.
The department also purchased a portable attack monitor, which replaces a nozzle that requires 2-3 firefighters to operate. The monitor will be set up and operated by one firefighter and cause very little fatigue, which lessens the chance of injuries on the fire ground and used on any fire that has spread to a large portion of a structure.
