Trash Collection Update:
We know many residents are frustrated with the ongoing delays in trash collection, and we understand. Some routes are still behind, and we sincerely apologize to everyone who has been affected.
We are currently dealing with unexpected staffing shortages due to illness, which has made it difficult to keep all routes on schedule. Our staff are working hard to collect as much trash as possible and get caught up, and we appreciate their continued efforts during a challenging time.
One of the difficulties with our current system is that our routes rely heavily on drivers' familiarity with their assigned areas. When a driver is unexpectedly out, it can be difficult for a substitute to pick up that route and know exactly where service is needed. This has made it especially challenging to stay on schedule when we have multiple absences.
The good news is that the new collection system begins Monday, October 19. Under the new five-day schedule, our drivers will use GPS-equipped tablets with digital route information. This will allow any trained driver to run any route in any truck, making it easier to cover unexpected absences and keep collections moving.
We anticipate this new system will help improve consistency and reliability, but we also ask for your patience as our drivers learn the new technology and we make any necessary route adjustments.
We know these delays have been frustrating, especially for residents who have already experienced missed or late collections.
We aren't asking you to ignore that frustration. We simply want you to know that we recognize the problems, our team is working hard, and changes are underway to improve the system moving forward.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges and transition to a more reliable collection schedule.
