Tornado Watch in effect for Alachua County and surrounding areas until at least 9pm. See the below areas affected.

Don't forget that although we will not be impacted by the high winds of Isaias, these tropical systems affect the overall weather over HUGE areas.

This weekend will still be a cloudy, rainy weekend, and there is always a potential for localized severe weather, including isolated tornadoes in the rainbands.

Always stay weather aware, visit the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida social media page or their website listed in the comments. You can also view any of the locally placed Weatherstem weather stations that are spread out throughout Alachua County (website link in the comments)

If a fire started in your home tonight, would everyone know what to do?

A few simple things can make a HUGE difference:

🔥 Have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas.

🚪 Know two ways out of every bedroom and make sure doors, windows, and escape routes can actually be used.

📍 Pick a meeting place outside — a mailbox, tree, or neighbor’s driveway — and make sure everyone knows it.

🧯 Keep a fire extinguisher handy, but remember: if a fire is growing or you’re not comfortable using it, get out and call 911.

🚫 Never go back inside. Once you’re out, stay out and let firefighters do their job.

And here’s the big one: Practice your escape plan. A fire is not the time to figure out what to do.

Windsor Brush 61 are responding with units from Alachua County Fire Rescue to a reported brush fire in the area of County Rd 234 and Hwy 441 in Micanopy. Please use caution in the area.

At Windsor Fire Department, training doesn’t stop when the call ends. Our crews have been putting in the work to stay prepared for the challenges they may face at a moment’s notice.

Recently, crews have been focusing on RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) operations and vehicle extrication, sharpening the skills needed to protect our own and provide the best possible service to those we serve.

RIT training helps our firefighters be ready to respond when one of our own is in trouble, while vehicle extrication training keeps our crews prepared to safely and efficiently help patients involved in serious crashes.

The equipment, techniques, and situations may change, but one thing remains the same, the commitment to train, improve, and be ready.

We’re proud of the dedication our crews continue to show not just during calls, but during the hours spent training behind the scenes.

Train hard. Stay ready. Serve with purpose.

As summer break ends, students are heading back to school! School buses will return to the roads, crossing guards will be out, and mornings and afternoons will be busier.

Please remember:
🍎 Slow down in school zones and follow posted speed limits.
🚌 Stop for school buses with flashing red lights and extended stop arms.
🚸 Watch for children walking or biking near schools and bus stops.
📵 Stay off your phone and avoid distractions while driving.
🎒 Leave a few extra minutes so you’re not rushing.

Parents, please review safety with your children:
• Look both ways before crossing the street.
• Use crosswalks whenever possible.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions like phones or headphones.
• Make sure younger kids know their bus number and a safe waiting spot.

A little patience goes a long way in keeping everyone safe. Let’s work together for a safe and successful school year!
