Public Information Officer Lisa Sacaccio had the honor of serving as the host for the 2026 Alachua County Heart Walk at Celebration Pointe this past Saturday.
The annual event, hosted by the American Heart Florida, brings our community together to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke, two of the nationโ€™s leading causes of death, while encouraging everyone to take steps toward better heart health.

It was especially moving to watch survivors make their way down Survivors Lane as they crossed the finish line and proudly beat the Survivor Drum, powerful reminder that their hearts beat strong.

During the early morning hours of Saturday, October 3, 2026, deputies responded to a gas station in the 4300 block of SE Hawthorne Road following a report of an armed disturbance.

Once on scene, deputies spoke with a gas station employee, who reported that several individuals entered the store. The employee told deputies that one of the individuals, later identified as 19-year-old James McCray, was holding a fi***rm that had been visible in his waistband.

According to the victim, the employee asked the group to leave, which led to a verbal altercation. Before leaving the property, McCray allegedly removed the fi***rm, pointed it at the employee and threatened to kill them. The group then left the area on foot, traveling north from the gas station.

Deputies started canvassing the surrounding area, including nearby apartment complexes, and reviewing available security camera footage.

Through investigative efforts, deputies located several individuals matching the descriptions provided by the victim in the area of the 4100 block of SE 10th Place. Deputies made contact with the group, including McCray. Although no fi***rms were found on the individuals at the time of contact, investigators were able to confirm McCray was the individual identified by the victim.

Investigators also determined the individuals had entered a nearby apartment following the reported incident. A search warrant was obtained and executed by detectives and crime scene investigators. Three handguns were located inside the apartment, including one fi***rm that was reported stolen out of the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office in 2020.

McCray was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Without Intent to Kill.

This remains an active investigation. No additional information is being released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Weโ€™re always grateful for opportunities to celebrate the athletes, their accomplishments and the incredible spirit they bring to our community.

When a child goes missing, every second counts!

Deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office regularly respond to incidents where a child or loved one with a disability goes missing, prompting long and often lengthy searches.

In those moments, the only thing that matters is finding your loved one and safely returning them home. We will utilize every possible resource available to us to make that happen!

During this incident, Sgt. Stemen and the members of Gainesville Police Department's Drone Team showed up to save the day. Our partnerships with one another create an enhanced response to critical moments, just like this one! We want to thank GPD and Sgt. Stemen for helping us return this child home.
