Happy National Cat Day!
Today we celebrate our wetlands feline, the Bobcat! Named for their bobbed tail, the Bobcat is the smallest of the lynx species, weighing between 10-30 lbs. on average. These cats can live up to 15 years in the wild and can be found in almost all environments from Canada to Mexico: wetlands, coniferous forests, coastal swamps, deserts, hardwood forests, and scrublands! The Bobcat's main prey in the rabbit but they also prey upon birds, small mammals, snakes, and even baby alligators! We are very lucky to catch rare glimpses of this shy feline at Sweetwater, typically at dawn and dusk.
Hope to see you at the park!

Pardon Our Dust!
Our parking lot is getting a little refresh! On Monday, Nov 2 we will be doing minor construction in our front parking area. Sweetwater Wetlands Park will still be open to the public during this touch up, with parking available in the two overflow lots. Accessible parking spots will also be available. The number of parking spaces in our main lot will be greatly reduced for several hours, so plan accordingly. Please be aware of additional larger vehicles and equipment near our entrance area and a possible increase in noise throughout the day. If you have any questions, please reach out to the ranger on duty. The number is located on the information board in the entrance pavilion. Or call the ranger station at 352-554-5871.
