The cat is officially out of the bag... because we are completely out of trash bags! 🙀🗑️

Our resident shelter kitty wanted to make sure the secret is out: keeping our shelter clean, safe, and welcoming for the women and children we serve takes a lot of daily upkeep - and right now, trash bags are one of our most urgent needs.

This is our sweet Junior League Belle: Ava Nelson. Ava represents My Sister’s Place well and helps us spread awareness in Forsyth and Hall County! 📣

What is a Junior League Belle?

We are SO glad you asked! The Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County hosts the annual Charity Ball Belle Program, a youth leadership and community service initiative for high school juniors and seniors.

➡️ Purpose: Pairs high school students with local civic clubs and non-profit organizations to raise awareness and funds for community initiatives.

💰Scholarships: Every participating Belle receives a $500 scholarship paid directly to her chosen college, university, or trade school.

👑 Belle of the Ball: The candidate who raises the most funds during the season is crowned Belle of the Ball and receives a donation equal to 10% of all funds raised.

Did you know that My Sister’s Place is a shelter with a working program? It means that the single women and mothers staying with us aren't just finding a safe haven- they are actively reclaiming their independence.

Often, the first major milestone on that journey is securing a stable job. Many of our ladies find positions in local factories and warehouses. However, these workplaces require heavy-duty safety gear, and the high cost of a pair of quality work boots can be an immediate roadblock when you are starting from square one and a simple uniform requirement can prevent you from earning a paycheck.

That is exactly why we are so incredibly grateful to RefrigiWear in Dahlonega, Georgia! Last Friday, they toured our shelter and delivered a massive donation of brand-new, top-tier women's work boots.

By providing the exact gear our residents need, RefrigiWear didn't just donate footwear- they directly shattered a barrier to employment. They gave women the power to walk onto the job site on day one feeling confident, equipped, and fully prepared to succeed.

Better late than never to share an absolute outpouring of love and sisterhood! 🏍️❤️👭

Even though we are a little late to post this, our gratitude hasn't faded one bit. Last month, nearly 300 incredible female riders from Stilettos on Steel descended upon Oktoberfest in Helen, GA for their 2026 Southeast Meetup.

In the ultimate display of women supporting women, they turned their celebration into a powerful mission to lift up My Sister's Place right here in Gainesville, Georgia!

These amazing women organized a massive drive, collecting toiletries and essential everyday items to comfort and support the single women and children staying at our shelter. But their generosity didn't stop there. They completely blew us away by surprising our team with a $1,500 check!

To top off an already unforgettable weekend, they sent us home with a car packed to the brim with donations and an abundance of delicious taco bar food, giving us enough bounty to pass the blessing along to two other local non-profits. 🌮✨

Time may have passed since we gathered together, but there is truly nothing more unstoppable than a community of women rallying together to empower other women. To the phenomenal riders of Stilettos on Steel: thank you for your beautiful hearts, your fierce spirit, and for showing our ladies that they are seen, valued, and supported. You are our heroes on wheels! 🦅💪
