October 9th 4:30PM

Tornado Watch in effect for Alachua County and surrounding areas until at least 9pm. See the below areas affected.

Don't forget that although we will not be impacted by the high winds of Isaias, these tropical systems affect the overall weather over HUGE areas.

This weekend will still be a cloudy, rainy weekend, and there is always a potential for localized severe weather, including isolated tornadoes in the rainbands.

Always stay weather aware, visit the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida social media page or their website listed in the comments. You can also view any of the locally placed Weatherstem weather stations that are spread out throughout Alachua County (website link in the comments)

Hurricane Isaias is now a major hurricane as it makes its way to the Panhandle.

The good news, there is still no expected direct impacts to the Alachua County area. We are still expecting elevated rainfall rates throughout the area until the end of the weekend.

As the storm makes its way through the Panhandle, we will keep the public in the loop of any type of official donation requests for those that may be in need after the storm.

Thursday October 8th 10:00am

Very little change in the track of Isaias. Impacts to Alachua County expected to be minimal to none.

As Isaias continues to gain strength, the track of the storm has not shifted much, which makes the chances of Alachua County experiencing any impacts less likely. However, as we always do, we will continue to watch the track of this storm closely, just in case there is a last minute track change.

You may notice several surrounding counties included in the Governor’s State of Emergency declaration. This is a routine administrative measure, not a cause for alarm, nor do you need to change any of your personal preparations. The declaration enables state and local agencies to position resources and secure any required State or Federal assistance early so emergency teams can prepare effectively if conditions shift.

We will continue updating you on the track and impacts of the storm for the next several days, so you and your family can stay informed.

October 7th, 2026 5:30pm

The 5pm update from the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center shows no significant changes in the path of this storm, and there are still no significant impacts expected for Alachua County.

Unfortunately, it does look like there is a very strong possibility that areas of the Florida Panhandle and other Gulf states are likely going to see some pretty significant impacts.

As always, these storms can be unpredictable, and any shifts in the track will be watched carefully.

Alachua County Emergency Management is actively participating in regular briefings from the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center along with receiving information on local impacts from the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida.

We will keep the public well informed on any changes that occur with any new projected impacts to our area. We will continue to push updates on this storm at least twice a day until the threat passes.

Information will also be posted on our website at AlachuaCountyReady.com. As always, make sure to text the word ALACHUA to 888-777 to receive disaster related text updates.

Tropical Storm Isaias Update for Alachua County

Yesterday evening, Tropical Storm Isaias formed in the Gulf and is expected to strengthen as it moves north into the US.

Despite the current track, we are still watching this storm closely and are in constant contact with the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida to stay alert for any track changes that could cause impact to our area.

While direct tropical impacts such as tropical winds are not anticipated for Alachua County, the system will continue to influence our local weather. The primary effect on our area remains a steady flow of tropical moisture, bringing additional rainfall to North Central Florida through the weekend. Having already absorbed significant rainfall over the last few days, the additional rain could cause some localized flooding issues throughout the county.

Residents, businesses, and visitors should continue to take normal precautions as they would any time there is a possibility for severe weather. Make sure to have a disaster plan, ensure that you and your family are signed up to get emergency text updates by texting the word ALACHUA to 888-777 and go to the National Weather Service website at weather.gov/jax for the latest forecast information.

We are closely monitoring the tropical disturbance in the southwestern Gulf, which currently has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next few days.

While direct tropical hazards such as high winds or significant severe weather are not expected in our area, the system will play a key role in our local weather.

Its primary effect on Alachua County will be a continuous funnel of tropical moisture across North Central Florida, keeping our rain chances elevated through the weekend.

This rain follows a very wet 24 hours across our area, during which Gainesville recorded over 5 inches of rainfall. As this pattern persists, current forecasts project as much as 3 inches of rain across Alachua County through Friday morning, though isolated heavy rain bands could produce localized totals of 6 to 8 inches.

Right now, there is a 70% chance of receiving at least 2 inches of rain over the next 72 hours, however, because local soils are already saturated from recent storms, a Marginal to Slight Risk (Level 1 to 2 out of 4) for flash flooding remains in place for low-lying and poor-drainage areas through the weekend.

You can always find the latest weather forecast for our area by visiting the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida website at weather.gov/jax.

We will keep you up to date with any significant changes as the weather system continues to evolve.
