Answering the call for a young man who is deaf, diagnosed with autism and in crisis…
Our officers recently handled this very call. One of our Autism/IDD Unit officers is certified in ASL. She responded along with other officers to include our MCPD crisis response team members.
This call had a peaceful resolution. Our unit will follow up with the family as well. I share this as I know that those in the deaf community may be in need of our unit resources. Our unit is happy to coordinate a presentation or provide information to any that might be in need.
This officer shares her time between patrol and our unit. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.
See the back page of our brochure for our contact info.
So proud to work with such great people to include this officer utilizing her ASL skills.

National Night Out is tomorrow Tuesday August 4th from 5PM-8PM.
Officer Miranda and retired officer Stoughton will be at the Olney Village Center location. She speaks Spanish.
Officer Bond will be at the Kensington Parkwood Location in Kensington.
At both of these locations we will have our brochures, to include our translated brochures on hand. We will have samples of our MCPD Wandering Safety kits to take a look at and see if it’s something you may want us to deliver to you at a later time. Most importantly, our officers are available for pictures or advice, questions about resources or just to say hi.
I busted my knee going over a fence (Fence 1/ Laurie 0) 😞 and unfortunately will not be able to make it this year to any of the events. Feel free to post pictures if you meet with our officers.
I’ll miss seeing everyone!
Reach out to us anytime.
Officer Laurie Reyes

The Montgomery County Police outreach unit enhances community safety for individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, Alzheimer’s, and dementia through education, empowerment, and proactive resources for caregivers.

Please always call 911 right away. Great job on this call. Our MCPD officers are well trained and experienced on these calls. We have been averaging over 10 calls a week in recent weeks for missing kiddos who have autism. In almost all of the cases, we are locating the child before caregivers are calling. This mom did call right away. This can happen to the best of caregivers. Please call right away.
