Gaithersburg HELP evolved from a vision that started in 1968. We also receive substantial support from local businesses and civic organizations.

Since 1968, the mission of Gaithersburg HELP is to provide individuals and families in the Gaithersburg area with basic needs assistance to resources that are available, and to provide information and referrals to other organizations and agencies. The faith community of Gaithersburg recognized that emergencies can happen on a moment's notice, yet government assistance often takes time. To meet the immediate needs of families affected by financial challenges, local churches and synagogues joined together to form Gaithersburg HELP in an effort to provide short-term assistance in a coordinated fashion. Today, our network is comprised of more than 25 member congregations and 160 volunteers working together to help those in need within the greater Gaithersburg area. A team of committed translators help us serve our diverse community, especially Spanish-speaking clients. Gaithersburg HELP is governed by the leadership of a Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of an Executive Committee and delegates from each of our member congregations; bi-monthly meetings are open to the public. For over 40 years, Gaithersburg HELP has supported local residents in need by providing food, transportation, and other services. Here's a snapshot of how we made a difference last year. Gaithersburg HELP provided assistance for more than 6,150 situations:

3,837 food packages, each containing a 3-5 day food supply
1,091 diaper/formula packages
721 rides to medical and social services appointments
789 essential prescription medications funded
