When Erika Alford answered the phone that day, she had no way of knowing the impact she was about to make.

On the other end of the line was someone experiencing one of the worst moments of their life. Erika remained calm, compassionate, and professional as she guided the caller through lifesaving CPR instructions. Because of her actions, someone was given the incredible gift of more time with their loved ones.

Not every call we take has a happy ending, but on this day, Erika was exactly the voice that caller needed to hear.

Our telecommunicators rarely get to see the impact they make, but moments like these remind us just how important their work truly is.

Erika, we are so incredibly proud of you and grateful to have you on our team! Thank you for being the calm in someone's storm.

A Little Family Fun Day Throwback!

A couple of Saturdays ago, we traded headsets and radio traffic for good food, face painting, cotton candy, games, family time, and lots of laughs!

We spend a lot of time together answering the call, so it was nice to slow down and enjoy a fun day with the people who support our team behind the scenes every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day happen and to all of our employees and families who came out to enjoy it with us. Our ECC family extends far beyond the walls of the communications center, and we’re grateful for every part of it. ❤️

Here’s a little look at Family Fun Day 2026! Can’t wait til next year!

A special thanks to Sumner County Sheriff's Office &
Sumner County Animal Services for the archery range, fingerprinting and the pups!

STORK AWARD — TIMES TWO!

Earlier this month, Emily Dillman received her SECOND Stork Award!

Emily remained calm, professional, and reassuring as she helped a mother through an incredible moment, bringing a new life into the world!

That makes Stork Award #2 and baby boy #2 for Emily!

The Stork Award is one of the most coveted awards in 911 dispatch, and earning one is pretty special. Earning two? Emily is building quite the résumé!

Now that she’s helped welcome two little boys into the world, Emily has just one request for the next one: she’s hoping for a girl!

We are so proud of Emily and incredibly grateful to have her as part of our team. Congratulations on Stork #2, Emily!

LIFE SAVER AWARD | MIRANDA

We are incredibly proud to recognize Miranda with a Life Saver Award for her actions during a recent emergency call.

Miranda answered a call involving a 70-year-old patient who had been pulled from the water after being submerged for upwards of two minutes. She was “quick to recognize the symptom of agonal breathing” and immediately directed the caller on scene to begin CPR.

Those instructions, and the caller’s willingness to follow them, made a critical difference.

By the time the first responder arrived, the patient was breathing and a pulse had been regained. According to a first responder on scene, “CPR starting when it did was critical.”

In emergency communications, our telecommunicators are often the very first link in the chain of survival. Miranda’s quick recognition, calm direction, and ability to get lifesaving care started before responders could arrive are a powerful example of just how important that role is.

Miranda, thank you for the work you do every day and for being there when this caller and patient needed you most. We are incredibly grateful for you and so proud to have you on our team.

Please join us in congratulating Miranda on a very well-deserved Life Saver Award!

🇺🇸 🇺🇸 We Will Never Forget.

Yesterday marked 25 years since September 11, 2001. A day our nation will never forget and a day we continue to honor the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the countless lives forever changed.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Alexander Funeral Home for remembering our ECC family on such an important day. They provided lunch for our team and gifted each of us a beautiful 25th Anniversary 9/11 commemorative challenge coin honoring those we lost.

For those who spend their days answering the call and supporting first responders from behind the headset, gestures like this truly mean so much. ❤️

Thank you, Alexander Funeral Home, for supporting our 911 professionals and for taking the time to remember and honor this day alongside us.

🇺🇸 25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

August was BUSY at the Sumner County Emergency Communications Center!

Throughout the month, our telecommunicators handled a combined 55,243 calls between calls for service and phone activity.

Just how much is 55,243 calls? That averages out to approximately:

12,473 calls per week
1,782 calls per day
74 calls per hour
1.2 calls every minute
1 call every 49 seconds

And behind every number is a person. Someone calling for help, an officer requesting assistance, a first responder needing information, or one of the countless other communications that move through our center every day.

55,243 calls. 31 days. 24/7. One team.

Same mission. Different numbers. Always here.
