Today is First Responder Friday! Meet Adv-EMT McKinney. J.C. has been in EMS for 33 years and with Gallia County EMS for 10 years.
J.C. says he joined EMS because: "As a kid, I always had a curiosity and intrigue with EMS, Fire, Police, etc. After completing college, I decided to go into EMS. I feel I was placed here for a reason. I work in two EMS counties with the hope of providing help when people feel they are in a time of need."
His mission in EMS is: "Hoping to make a change in someone's life to the best of my ability, being as thoughtful and professional as possible. I do enjoy helping people."
Outside of EMS, he enjoys doing anything that gets him outside, spending time with his family, traveling, and sometimes just chilling out. He has two dogs, Lady and Butters, a cat named Luna, and several fish.
His favorite quote is: "It is what it is! God takes care of the rest!!"

We are so proud of Gallia Co EMS EMT Emily Shank on her Daisy Award!

Congratulations to Emily Shank, BSN, RN, CEN, Emergency Department Charge Nurse, on receiving The DAISY Award®!

Emily was recognized for going above and beyond for a patient during a frightening and uncertain medical situation. After completing a 12-hour shift, Emily stepped in to help ensure the patient could be safely transferred to another facility when transportation wait times were long. Her dedication didn’t end there. Days later, Emily followed up with the patient to see how they were doing.

Emily’s compassion, selflessness and commitment to her patients truly embody the spirit of The DAISY Award®. We are proud to celebrate Emily and the meaningful difference she makes in the lives of those she cares for. UPDATE 9-4-2026 11:00 am:

The phone line issue is a wide spread issue. They have narrowed it down to Franklin County and now trying to come up with a solution. Currently our 911 lines are still transferred to Lawrence County and admin lines are working sporadically. Will update when we learn more. We still have the 2 cell phones in the office if you cannot get through on the other lines. 740-339-3057 and 740-339-0976

Currently we are experiencing phone line issues on both 911 and administration lines. All 911 lines have been transferred to Lawrence County 911 and they can get ahold of us via cell phones. If you have a non emergency call for the Sheriff Office, Gallipolis Police or Rio Grande Police Dept. you can dial 740-339-0976 or 740-339-3057 we will update the public as we receive information from AT&T on what the issue is.
