Recently, CDCR Academy staff spent an evening at Texas Roadhouse and Cattlemens supporting Special Olympics. Our staff stepped outside of their usual roles and tried their hand at serving dinner while helping raise awareness and collect donations for an organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. What started as a fun evening of serving others became something much more meaningful. It was a reminder that behind every donation, every encouraging word, and every helping hand is an opportunity to make someone feel seen, supported, and valued. We’re grateful to have shared an evening filled with laughter, connection, and purpose and proud to support athletes who continue to inspire us with their courage, determination, and heart. Because sometimes, making a difference starts with simply showing up.
