The City of Boise will begin the second stage of its ongoing 8th Street Improvements Project next week. While the first stage primarily affected pedestrians, this stage will also impact vehicle traffic. ACHD is sharing information on this City of Boise project to help travelers plan ahead.
Beginning Monday, Main Street will be closed to vehicles between 9th Street and Capitol Boulevard. Access to the Capitol & Main Parking Garage will be available via Idaho Street. The 9th & Main Parking Garage will remain accessible from Main Street.
The Valley Regional Transit bus stop will be temporarily relocated to the west side of 9th Street, south of Main Street. Temporary pedestrian crosswalks will also be in place while the Main Street intersection is under construction.
Drivers can also expect lane shifts on Idaho Street through the project area.
The pedestrian area located in the middle of 8th Street between Main Street and Idaho Street will be closed during construction. Sidewalks on both sides of 8th Street will remain open to provide access to downtown businesses. Businesses will remain open during construction, and community members are encouraged to continue supporting downtown businesses during the project.
People using bicycles or scooters should dismount when using the sidewalks or use an alternate route.
This stage of work is expected to continue through July 10.
The work is part of the City of Boise's 8th Street Improvements Project. Since 2020, 8th Street has been closed to vehicles between Main and Bannock streets.
For questions about the project, residents can contact Chad Rietze, City of Boise Senior Planner for Pathways & Public Spaces at [email protected].
