Why are ABC Inspections so important?

During a recent initial ABC inspection at a new business in Durham, Wall Town Mini Mart located at 1551 Guess Rd, ALE Special Agents located and seized over 77 lbs. of Khat, an illegal drug with effects similar to co***ne and methamphetamine.

Mohamed Ahmed Alsayed, 51, of Durham was arrested and charged with multiple felony drug offenses, including..

- Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance
- Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver a Schedule VI Controlled Substance – 2 Counts
- Felony Maintaining a Business for a Controlled Substance

ALE and several other law enforcement agencies responded to this situation today in the Brutonville community. The investigation is ongoing. Our thoughts are with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, all law enforcement personnel involved, and the Brutonville community during this difficult situation.

The situation ended around 3 p.m. when the person suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

ALE ASSISTING WITH BARRICADED SITUATION IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

At approximately, 10:45 this morning ALE was requested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a barricaded hostage situation involving a subject potentially shooting at local law enforcement officers.

This is investigation is currently on-going and our special operations group (SOG) has responded to assist along with North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Moore County Sheriff's Office.

More information will be released when it becomes available.

Director House and other ALE leaders recently traveled to Delaware to meet with our counterparts from Delaware Alcohol, To***co, & Ma*****na Enforcement and the Office of the Ma*****na Commissioner.

These visits provided a valuable opportunity to learn from Delaware’s subject-matter experts about best practices in alcohol, to***co, and cannabis enforcement, regulatory oversight, and emerging challenges in this evolving landscape.

Sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and building relationships with other states help us identify innovative approaches, strengthen our enforcement strategies, and continue adapting to the challenges facing our communities.

We appreciate our Delaware partners for their hospitality, expertise, and willingness to share their experiences!

Collaboration across state lines makes us all stronger and ultimately helps us better serve and protect the people of North Carolina.

ALE is partnering with the Hickory Police Department - Official to investigate a shots-fired incident that occurred outside the Reverb Lounge in Hickory over the weekend. The establishment has a history of recent violent events and drug violations on the premises. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
