🔥 Training Today. Ready for Tomorrow! 🚒

Several members of Garner Fire-Rescue recently attended a two-day Engine Operations course presented by the Durham Dirty Works Training Corps!

Ongoing training allows our firefighters to learn new techniques, sharpen existing skills, and stay prepared to meet the challenges they may face in the field. Every opportunity to train helps ensure our team is ready to deliver the highest level of service when our citizens need us most!

💪 Train hard. Stay sharp. Serve our community! ❤️🚒

🔥 Fire Prevention Week in Action at Auburn Village! 🔥
Yesterday, Garner Fire-Rescue had the pleasure of visiting Auburn Village for an important fire prevention and safety education session! 🚒

Members of our Garner Community Risk Reduction (CRR) team and Garner Fire Station 4 joined forces to provide hands-on fire extinguisher training and share important safety tips for the proper use, charging, storage, and handling of lithium-ion batteries.

🔹 Fire Extinguisher Training: Learning how to respond safely when a small fire occurs, including hands-on live fire practice with extinguishers
🔹 Lithium-Ion Battery Safety: Understanding the potential fire hazards associated with everyday rechargeable batteries and how to reduce the risk.

Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder that fire safety starts with knowledge, preparation, and prevention! We appreciate the team at Auburn Village for welcoming us and helping make fire safety a priority.

A big thank-you to everyone who participated! Together, we're building a safer Garner, one visit at a time. ❤️🚒

🚒🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK IN GARNER SCHOOLS! 🔥🚒

Garner Fire-Rescue had a fantastic time working with our local elementary schools to bring important fire safety lessons to our third- and fourth-grade students during this year’s Fire Prevention Week!

📚 It started in the classroom! Before Fire Prevention Week, Garner Fire-Rescue met with school staff and provided school staff with the National Standards-Curriculum based NFPA “Charge Into Fire Safety” lesson plan, focused on fire prevention and safe lithium-ion battery practices. Teachers brought these lessons to life in their classrooms, helping students learn how to recognize fire hazards and make safer choices at home and at school.

🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ Calling all Fire Safety Superheroes! Students also had the opportunity to participate in our Fire Safety Superhero Contest! The winning students receive a very special prize—a ride to school on a Garner fire truck! 🚒

👨‍🚒 During Fire Prevention Week, Garner Fire-Rescue crews visited with third and/or fourth-grade students at each school for assemblies to review the lessons learned, discuss home fire safety, and reinforce what to do if a fire occurs. Crews also announced the contest winners!

🏆 Stay tuned! We'll share the winning superhero designs and photos when our winners receive their exciting fire truck rides to school!

A huge THANK YOU to the principals, assistant principals, teachers, and staff at all four participating schools for helping us make fire safety education a priority and to all Garner Fire-Rescue crews for assitance with assemblies and providing the upcoming trips to school!:

🏫 Vance Elementary
🏫 Rand Road Elementary
🏫 Creech Road Elementary

It takes a community working together to build safer homes, schools, and neighborhoods. We appreciate our school partners for helping Garner's young fire safety superheroes learn today and stay safer tomorrow! ❤️🚒

Remember: Every day is a great day to practice fire safety!

Garner Fire Rescue, Mayor Gupton and the Town Council marked Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4-10) at Tuesday's Council meeting. The focus for Garner Fire-Rescue during this year's Fire Prevention Week is the proper use and disposal of lithium ion batteries, which power most of the rechargeable electronics used in homes including smartphones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters and various toys. If misused, damaged or improperly charged, lithium ion batteries can overheat, start a fire or explode.

You can learn more about the proper use and disposal of these batteries by visiting:

B-Shift crews responded to a house fire on Aversboro Rd Tuesday afternoon with a report of possible trapped victims and pets. Initial arrival found large fire load throughout much of the duplex. Quick forcible entry of both units, quick fire knockdown and an aggresive search revealed no one home and no pets present.

Five of our Garner Fire-Rescue staff recently participated in the North Carolina Victims Assistance Network 5K run at Lake Benson Park and our very own Seth Bryan took 1st Place in the overall event! Furthermore, during the race, several of our staff went back to assist someone who had fallen, provided care AND proceeded to finish the race themselves.
Ironically enough, this is not the first time a medical situation has occurred requiring intervention.
Several years ago, our members who were in the race, stopped to render CPR to a runner that had collapsed, reviving the patient and then completing the race.
Congratulations to all the race participants and thanks to our staff for always putting others needs ahead of their own! Well done!!
