Gary Police Department Statement Honoring the 25th Anniversary of September 11

Today, the Gary Police Department joins our nation in solemnly commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost that tragic day and honor the countless families, friends, and communities forever changed by those events. We especially remember the brave members of law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other public safety professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice while running toward danger to protect and save others.

Su***de Awareness Month

During Su***de Awareness Month, the Gary Police Department stands with those who are struggling, those who have lost loved ones to su***de, and everyone working to bring hope, healing, and support to our community. Mental health matters, and no one should ever feel they have to face life's challenges alone.

We also want to recognize the outstanding work of Detective Aguilar, who yesterday responded to a call involving an individual who had attempted to take their own life. Through patience, compassion, and professionalism, Detective Aguilar was able to establish communication, de-escalate the situation, and help connect the individual with the services and care they needed.

His actions serve as a powerful reminder that law enforcement is not only about enforcing the law—it is also about protecting life, showing compassion, and serving those in their greatest moments of need.

The Gary Police Department remains committed to supporting the well-being of every member of our community.
