ALS stands for Advanced Life Support!

ALS providers, typically paramedics, receive advanced training to manage critical medical emergencies. This includes administering medications, interpreting heart rhythms, performing advanced airway management, and providing advanced cardiac life support.

🚨 ALS is essential when patients need advanced interventions. The goal is to get the right level of care to the patient at the right time!

BLS EMTs are trained to provide lifesaving care, including CPR, controlling bleeding, assisting with breathing, treating medical emergencies, and safely transporting patients to the hospital.

🚨 You don’t always need advanced interventions to save a life. Sometimes, the most important thing is getting the right care to the patient and getting them to definitive care as quickly as possible!

🚑 Fall Prevention in Grant County

Did you know that falls account for approximately 18% of Grant County EMS calls? Our crews respond to falls regularly, and a few simple steps can help prevent them.

🏡 Here are a few tips to help:
• Keep walkways clear of clutter.
• Use handrails and grab bars when needed.
• Keep your home well-lit.
• Wear shoes with good traction.
• Take your time getting up and moving around.

❤️ Check on your loved ones! A quick phone call or visit can make a difference, especially for older adults living alone. Make sure they’re doing okay and have what they need to stay safe.

🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

In 2010, we lost someone very close to us to cancer. Her memory continues to be a part of our department, and each October, we honor her and everyone affected by cancer.

You’ll notice that each of our ambulances proudly displays the cancer awareness logo as a reminder that behind every call is a person, a family, and a story.

This month, we remember those we’ve lost, support those currently fighting, and stand with the survivors who continue to inspire us. 💗

From all of us at Grant County EMS — we remember, we support, and we care.

GCEMS will have crews available for your first aid needs at both Ducktail and James Dean Festival this weekend!

As we mentioned in a post earlier this week, we rely heavily on UTVs from both GCEMS and Gas City Fire to navigate through all the traffic and crowds of both festivals. Please be aware of your surroundings!

We are thankful for a good working relationship with both Gas City Volunteer Fire Department as well and Fairmount Fire Department especially this weekend as both departments pitch in and help provide coverage and services for the busy weekend. 🚑 🚒

This past Saturday Grant County EMS put on an Emergency Vehicle Driving Course! We strive at GCEMS to have the most qualified drivers!

In this class you learn how to safely operate an ambulance at higher speeds and during different road conditions as well as learning spatial awareness as ambulances are not tiny. 🚑
