The City of Gastonia Arts Committee is excited to introduce Community Canvas, a new public art space located at the corner of Clay & Main Avenue, next to the Durty Bull parking lot.
This temporary mural space is open to artists of all ages and skill levels. Families, summer camps, homeschool groups, budding artists, and anyone looking to get creative are invited to enjoy the space and leave their mark.

🌡️ Cooling Locations Available During Extreme Heat
The City of Gastonia and Gaston County are partnering to help residents find temporary relief from high temperatures this summer.
Beginning June 15 through September 15, designated cooling areas will be available at City community centers when temperatures are forecasted to reach 95° or higher. Residents may also visit county libraries and other public facilities during normal operating hours.
These locations are intended to provide a safe, temporary place to cool off during extreme heat conditions.

At the June 2 Gastonia City Council meeting, Mayor Richard Franks presented a proclamation recognizing the 10th Anniversary of the Hunter Huss Alumni Association.
The City of Gastonia congratulates Ms. Chez Adams and all members of the association for their continued dedication to preserving the rich history, traditions, and spirit of Hunter Huss High School while supporting students, alumni, and the broader community.

The City of Gastonia has officially adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
During the June 2 City Council meeting, Council approved a $378.75 million budget focused on maintaining essential services, supporting strategic priorities, and preparing for continued growth across our community.
Highlights of the FY 2027 budget include:
• No property tax increase
• No increase in electric rates
• Continued infrastructure investment
• Employee pay increases and career development incentives
• Updates to water/sewer, solid waste, GO Gastonia, and Schiele Planetarium fees
The adopted budget goes into effect July 1, 2026.
