Parrottsville, or near Newport, moving south at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Sevierville, Newport, Dandridge, Pigeon Forge, Baneberry,
Parrottsville, Pittman Center, Caney Branch, Del Rio, and Cedar
Creek.

JOINT NEWS RELEASE

Sevier County, Cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, and Town of Pittman Center to Proclaim September 25 as Dolly Parton Day

Sevier County, the City of Sevierville, the City of Pigeon Forge, the City of Gatlinburg, and the Town of Pittman Center will jointly proclaim September 25 as Dolly Parton Day, recognizing and celebrating the extraordinary life, enduring legacy, and lifelong connection to her hometown of one of Sevier County’s most recognized and influential daughters.

A special signing ceremony will be held at 9 AM on Friday, September 25, on the steps of the historic Sevier County Courthouse, located at 125 Court Avenue in Sevierville. Leaders from Sevier County and the participating cities will gather to officially sign the joint proclamation and commemorate this historic day.

Beginning September 25, 2026, and continuing each year thereafter, Dolly Parton Day will give the people of Sevier County, businesses, organizations, schools, and visitors an opportunity to celebrate Dolly’s remarkable contributions while reflecting on the values she has demonstrated throughout her life.

Born and raised in Sevier County, Dolly Parton carried the spirit of the Great Smoky Mountains and her East Tennessee roots with her throughout a career that has touched generations around the world. Her accomplishments in music, entertainment, and business helped shape the tourism industry of Sevier County, while her generosity and commitment to helping others have created a legacy that extends far beyond her professional achievements.

Through the Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library, her support of pediatric healthcare, and her response to the 2016 wildfires through the My People Fund, Dolly consistently demonstrated a commitment to children, families, and the communities she calls home.

Residents, businesses, organizations, schools, and visitors throughout Sevier County are encouraged to celebrate Dolly Parton Day in their own way and, most importantly, to dream big, work hard, care for others, give generously, and never forget where you come from.

Dolly Parton Day will be observed annually on September 25 throughout Sevier County.

Last week, some of our newer members got hands-on experience learning more about Wildland 71’s pump operations and getting familiar with the equipment they may rely on when the call comes in.

Training like this is about more than knowing where everything is… it’s about building confidence, teamwork, communication, and skills before we ever need them on an emergency.

We’re proud to see our newer members putting in the time, asking questions, and continuing to learn. 🔥

And your 10-minute drive may now take approximately 47 business days. 🤣

As thousands of visitors head into Pigeon Forge (actually our entire county) for Rod Run, please remember:

👉 Slow down.
👉 Be patient.
👉 Watch for pedestrians.
👉 Put the phone down.
👉 And PLEASE don’t stop in the middle of the road because you spotted the coolest car you’ve ever seen. 😂

Today, we celebrate the grandparents who have spent a lifetime loving, teaching, encouraging, and showing up for the people they love.

Around here, we know a thing or two about generations.

Some of the firefighters who serve our community today learned the meaning of hard work, compassion, courage, and taking care of your neighbors from grandparents who came before them.

And some of our department’s greatest supporters are the grandparents sitting at home, praying for their firefighter, waiting for that call or siren to end, and reminding them that someone is always proud of the work they do.

To the grandparents who raised us, spoiled us, taught us, prayed for us, told us stories, and left behind lessons we carry for the rest of our lives—

Thank you.

And to the grandparents in our community who have spent decades helping make Pittman Center what it is today:

We see you. We appreciate you. And we’re grateful for you. ❤️

Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001, but the memory has never faded.

We remember the 343 firefighters who entered the towers and never came home. We remember the law enforcement officers, EMS providers, and every brave man and woman who gave their lives that day while answering a call for help.

They came from different departments, different cities, and different backgrounds—but they answered the same call.

And to those of us here in the Smoky Mountains, they were brothers and sisters.

Because that is the bond of the fire service. It reaches beyond station walls, beyond state lines, and beyond the miles that separate us. When one firefighter puts on that gear and answers the call, they become part of something bigger than themselves.

We may never have stood beside them at a firehouse in New York. We may never have heard their voices on the radio. But we stand beside their families, we honor their sacrifice, and we carry their memory with us every time we respond to someone else’s emergency.

Twenty-five years later, their courage still reminds us why we serve.

Honor. Remember. Never Forget.

WE’RE CELEBRATING MORE THAN A DAY OFF.

The ones who wake up before the sun and head to work while the rest of the world is still sleeping.

The ones who spend their days caring for others.
The ones who build, teach, drive, repair, serve, protect, create, provide, and lead.
The ones who work long hours so their families can have a little more.
The ones who quietly do the jobs that often go unnoticed, but without them, our community simply wouldn’t function.

And we want to recognize something especially close to home…

Our volunteer firefighters have jobs, families, responsibilities and lives outside these red trucks. But when someone needs help, they put everything down and answer the call. 🚒

That spirit of hard work and service is woven into the fabric of the community we’re blessed to serve.

So today, we want to hear from you. ❤️

Dangerously hot conditions are expected across our area today, with heat index values reaching around 100–106° in portions of the region.

Please take the heat seriously:

💧 Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks.
☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
👀 Check on children, elderly neighbors, and those who may be vulnerable to the heat.
🐾 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a short time.

If you’re working or enjoying the outdoors in our beautiful Smoky Mountains, slow down, stay cool, and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
