Coral Swanson, whose home library is the Cobb Public Library, has completed the Fall Library Crawl! She visited all 30 SWLS libraries since September 1st, and G**s Mills was her final stop. Her passport is full of stamps! Coral has certainly thrown down the gauntlet to other Fall Library Crawlers!

SWLS Fall Library Crawl begins September 1st and ends on October 31st. 🍁🍂⛅

This program gives library lovers a fun way to enjoy the fall colors, library buildings, and local shops while road tripping throughout our beautiful Driftless Region of Southwestern Wisconsin.

When a patron arrives at a new library, they’ll ask for a stamp in their passport. Visit 5 or more libraries to complete the crawl. The more libraries they visit, the bigger the prizes. They’ll then be eligible for a chance to win our November Drawing.

"You can never put enough books in the hands of enough children." - Dolly Parton

If your zip code is 54631 you can sign up a child under the age of five for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. For other zip codes, check to see if you're covered at https://imaginationlibrary.com/

Some legacies are measured in gold records. Dolly measures one of hers in books. 📚 Her Imagination Library mails a free book every single month to millions of children, from the day they are born until they start school, no matter what their family can afford.

She started it in honor of her daddy, who never learned to read or write. It broke her heart that such a smart, hardworking man carried that quiet shame his whole life. So she built something that would put a book in the hands of every child she could reach. 💛

Kids all over the world now call her the Book Lady, and you can tell it might be the title she treasures most. Not bad for a girl who grew up with almost nothing but a mama who told the best stories. ✨

We're fixing to paint a new mural in the children's area so it's in disarray this week.
If you'd like to check out some children's materials we can let you in to browse, but we're not set up for family play time.
We hope to complete the mural this week and have the children's area open for regular use by next Monday.

We had a nice turnout for our Living Treasures local history program. The audience sat in rapt attention as the speakers shared stories, anecdotes, and lore of G**s Mills. We hope to hold more events like this in the future!
Brian McKnight talked about the history of the Crawford County Fair Grounds, to***co farming, and E. Tex Reddick. Janet Teach talked about Sunrise Orchards history with a little help from Jim Maybee. And Marilyn McManamy talked about living in the mill house by the dam and the dramatic floods she's witnessed and been rescued from.
Note: In the top photo, Marilyn is seen talking to the group from her chair and is seated next to Elaine Strait. The newspaper clipping shows Marilyn (Fortney) and Elaine (Lester) as high schoolers serving cheese at a Crawford Electric Cooperative function.

Happy Book Lovers Day to our wonderful patrons!
Every smile, every question we can help you with, everytime we read a story to a child or listen to your kids giggling in the book nook, every movie we watch together, craft we create, and thing we learn...each and every thing we do with you makes our job worthwhile.
Got a favorite book to share? Drop it in the comments and tell us why.
And we are totally on board with you calling us Book Dragons instead of librarians...
