📬 MAILBOX SAFETY REMINDER 📬
The Gearhart Police Department has seen a rash of mailbox related incidents recently. We encourage residents to take extra precautions to protect their mail, personal information, and financial documents.
Your mailbox can be a target for thieves looking to steal personal information, checks, financial documents, and packages. Taking a few simple precautions can help protect your mail and your identity.
The Gearhart Police Department encourages residents to:
• Retrieve your mail as soon as possible after delivery.
• Utilize secure post office drop boxes for important outgoing mail.
• Shred sensitive documents before disposal.
• Sign up for USPS Informed Delivery to monitor incoming mail.
• Consider replacing your mailbox with a locking mailbox system.
• Use USPS vacation hold services when you are away from home.
• Sign up for paperless statements and billing whenever possible to reduce sensitive mail delivered to your home.
• Report suspicious activity or suspicious persons in your neighborhood to law enforcement.
Mail theft is more than an inconvenience—it can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and other crimes. By staying vigilant and following these simple safety measures, we can help keep our community safe.
If you witness suspicious activity or believe you have been the victim of mail theft, please contact the Gearhart Police Department at 503-738-5501, or Seaside Dispatch at 503-738-6311 and ask for the Gearhart PD Duty Officer.
