This week, our maintenance staff will be hard at work line striping our park roads. We take public safety seriously here at Geneva State Park, and improving our road striping is a great way to make the park safer for all guests.

The 4-way intersection of Lake and Padanarum Road lacked the white stop lines. We added those in yesterday, which is a much-needed change that should make that intersection a lot safer.

We will also re-stripe the yellow lane divider down Padanarum road north, and also the entrance to Breakwater Beach.

Be on the lookout for these changes as they come in!

Happy peak monarch migration season! 🦋

As the monarchs make their way south to Mexico, we are happy to have two caterpillars hanging out and growing on our Nature Center milkw**d plants! We also spent time this weekend talking about butterfly symmetry, the life cycle, and making watercolor butterflies! 🐛🎨

This Labor Day we want to celebrate and appreciate our hard-working Geneva State Park maintenance staff! They labor tirelessly to keep our park safe, clean, and beautiful, and we can not thank them enough!💪🏼🌳🦺

Between building and installing the new park map kiosks, mowing the lawn, w**d whacking around the clock, responding to any needs or emergencies, and everything in between, their dedication is what allows our park to thrive! 💯

We would also like to honor the achievements, contributions, and sacrifices of all American workers and we hope that as the summer winds down, you find yourself spending this holiday in the park, outdoors, and enjoying those around you! 🇺🇸☀️🌭

One big improvement we’ve made this summer is upgrading our maps, kiosks, and signage across the park!! 🪧🗺️🪏

•We have brand new golf cart maps posted in key golf cart areas🏌️‍♂️🛒

•Our park maps are updated with new symbols for the Nature Center, disc golf, and many others 🍃🗑️

•Maps are also updated with new location markers 📍

•AND our awesome maintenance team built and installed new, handmade wooden kiosks to hold all of our new maps! 🪵💪🏼

Sometimes all you need is a little upgrade to not only liven things up a bit, but also to improve access around the park!

Saturday afternoons? Archery time at Geneva State Park!!! 🏹

We offer free, all-equipment-provided beginner archery programs for the whole family! Come check it out at the following times this month:
- September 12th, 4:30-6:00
- September 26th, 4:30-6:00

Last weekend, we celebrated the Sturgeon Full Moon with full-moon kayaking!! 🌕🚣‍♀️

The August full moon is named the sturgeon moon because late summer to early fall used to be the time of the most abundant catch of giant sturgeon in the Great Lakes area. Native Americans used lunar months to track seasonal changes and noted that, prior to overfishing, August was the peak time to harvest these freshwater fish.

Our last two full moon kayaks of 2026 will be September 25th and 26th from 7:30-9:00, brining in the Harvest Moon! 🌾🌖

You may have seen this plant around the park, on roadsides, or in fields and meadows lately. This is the ever-important ironw**d (Vernonia gigantea)! Ironw**d is a tall, native perennial wildflower in the aster family and is known for its rigid stems and clusters of vibrant purple flowers. 🟣

Ironw**d is an ecological powerhouse, serving as a vital late-season bloomer across North America. Typically in bloom from July-October, they provide nectar and pollen to pollinators even after other wildflowers have stopped blooming. Ironw**d is especially important for migrating monarchs, serving as a critical energy source by supplying rich, high-energy nectar to fuel their multi-thousand-mile trip. 💪🏼

Here is an ironw**d near the lakeside campground, visited by several migrating monarchs just this morning! We also have many ironw**d plants in the Crabapple Picnic Area, a hotspot to see these amazing butterflies! 🦋
