During the September 28 meeting, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the purchase of a new ambulance to help the Germantown Fire Department maintain a reliable fleet for daily emergency response and periods of high call volume.

The City will purchase a Crestline Ford F-450 XLT 4x4 ambulance from Ten-8 Fire and Safety Inc. for $359,379. The new unit will replace Ambulance F-173 and will be stationed at Fire Station 4 on Forest Hill Irene Road.

The purchase is part of the Fire Department's scheduled apparatus replacement plan included in the FY27 Capital Improvement Program. Once the new ambulance is placed into service, GFD will maintain a fleet of seven ambulances:

• Three staffed full-time for daily emergency response
• Four backup units that can be staffed during periods of heavy call volume

Maintaining backup ambulances gives GFD additional capacity when multiple medical emergencies occur at the same time or when another unit is temporarily out of service.

Planned replacement of aging emergency equipment helps ensure GFD personnel have reliable resources ready to serve residents when they need them most. 🚑🚨

Members of the Germantown Fire Department recently completed the challenging Confined Space Rescue course at the Tennessee Fire Academy.

The course puts firefighters through physically and mentally demanding scenarios, including navigating restricted-access, zero-visibility environments while managing specialized equipment, rigging and rescue operations. Success requires focus, teamwork and the ability to solve complex problems under pressure.

Specialized training like this strengthens our department’s ability to respond when someone is trapped in a confined space or facing another complex rescue situation.

We’re proud of the dedication our firefighters continue to show as they train to be prepared for any emergency. Outstanding work to everyone who took on this challenge!

A milestone achievement for the Germantown Fire Department.

GFD is now officially certified as a Type 2 hazardous materials response team, a rigorous designation achieved by only a select number of agencies across Tennessee.

This certification recognizes the team's advanced technical expertise, specialized equipment and readiness to provide rapid mutual aid when complex hazards arise.

TEMA Director Patrick sheehan recently presented the City with its official certification, recognizing GFD's role in strengthening emergency response capabilities across the region and state.

Thank you to all of our Germantown neighbors who participated in Germantown Night Out! We enjoyed spending the evening with residents across the community, and we're incredibly grateful for the hospitality and generosity show to our crews!

Training today helps prepare GFD for tomorrow. 🚒

Last week, Germantown Fire Department firefighters completed an intensive, one-week aerial training course designed for drivers who are new to operating the department’s aerial devices. Each participant was required to successfully complete a rigorous practical evaluation demonstrating their proficiency.

This training is an important part of GFD’s succession planning and, most importantly, helps ensure the safety of our community and the continued delivery of exceptional service.

Excellence, Every Call.

A carbon monoxide alarm brought Germantown Fire Department crews to a home where they discovered dangerously high CO levels and a running generator.

While searching the home, firefighters found the homeowners' dogs and safely removed them before ventilating the home and shutting down the generator, which was identified as the likely source.

The homeowners later expressed their gratitude to the crew for going above and beyond to protect their home and rescue their pets.

This is an important reminder: Never operate a generator inside a home, garage or other enclosed space. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and keep generators safely outdoors, away from doors, windows and vents.

🇺🇸 Climbing to Remember. Climbing to Honor. 🇺🇸

Members of the Germantown Fire Department were proud to join hundreds of first responders from across the Mid-South for the inaugural 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis.

Firefighters from Shelby, Tipton, DeSoto and surrounding counties climbed the equivalent of 110 stories—the height of the World Trade Center towers—in honor of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Representing Germantown Fire were:

🚒 Driver Sam Woolfolk
🚒 Firefighter Byron Rahilly
🚒 Firefighter John Campbell
🚒 Lieutenant Cody Hughes
🚒 Lieutenant Charlie Haumesser
🚒 Firefighter Brock Stephens

Each step was a reminder of the courage, sacrifice and brotherhood displayed on that day and in the years since.

The event also gave back to the fire service community, with all proceeds and donations benefiting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and its programs supporting the families and survivors of fallen firefighters.

We are proud of our firefighters for taking part in this meaningful tribute and helping ensure that the sacrifice of the 343 is never forgotten.

343. We climb because they climbed. We remember because they gave everything. 🇺🇸

🚒 Welcome to the GFD Family, Bryce! 🚒

Help us give a big Germantown Fire welcome to Bryce Beeler, one of the newest members of our crew!

Bryce is 33 and is brand new to the fire service. Originally from Knoxville, he made his way to Memphis in 2011 to play baseball at the University of Memphis. ⚾️

Bryce says he’s always been interested in the fire service because he enjoys being part of a team and working alongside others toward a common goal. He believes God’s timing is always right, and he’s excited to start this new chapter with Germantown Fire.

When he’s not at the firehouse, Bryce enjoys spending time with his wife, Mariah, and their two kids, June and Jack. And when family life gives him a little free time, you might find him out playing a round of golf with friends.

We’re glad to have you on the team, Bryce! Welcome to Germantown Fire! 🚒🔥

When you think of the Germantown Fire Department, you may picture fire trucks responding with lights and sirens. But some of GFD’s most important work happens before an emergency ever occurs.

After completing an intensive week-long Fire Inspector certification course at the Alabama Fire College’s Huntsville Regional Training Center, 15-year GFD veteran Inspector/Firefighter Paramedic Joe Bagwell earned his state certification and is preparing to file for his state fire inspector license.

The training focused on fire and building codes, emergency plans and safety standards. These skills help identify potential hazards and make Germantown’s commercial and public buildings safer for residents, visitors and first responders.

Through specialized training and certifications, GFD continues to invest in prevention, preparedness and community risk reduction, helping keep emergencies from happening in the first place.

🚨 National Emergency Preparedness Month – Week 4: Prepared Together! 🚨

As we wrap up Week 4 of National Emergency Preparedness Month, remember: preparedness is a community effort! Being ready isn’t just about having supplies—it’s about making sure everyone knows what to do when an emergency happens.

Include the kids!
Emergency preparedness doesn’t have to be scary. Turn it into something fun! Try a preparedness scavenger hunt or use a Preparedness Bingo card to help kids learn important safety skills while building confidence.

🏘️ Look out for your neighbors!
Take a few minutes to connect with neighbors who may need extra help during an emergency, especially older adults or people with disabilities. Knowing ahead of time who may need assistance evacuating or getting to a safe place can make a big difference when every second counts.

❤️ A prepared community is a stronger community. Talk with your family, check on your neighbors, and make preparedness something we do together.

Prepare. Connect. Support. Be Ready, Germantown!
