Join Us for a FREE Pickleball Clinic Tomorrow! đź–¤

Come out and join us Monday, October 19th, at Forest Hill Elementary School (playground area) for a fun opportunity to learn, practice, and play pickleball!

Student leaders from our Houston High School Pickleball Club will be leading skill-building sessions, helping participants develop their game, and supporting open play as we get ready for our Pickleball Intramural Event on November 7th!

Whether you're brand new to pickleball or already enjoy playing, this is a great opportunity to build skills, have fun, and connect with others through this growing sport!

We're also excited to introduce our brand-new GMSD Pickleball App, available for anyone to use! Explore skill-development resources, games, activities, playing tips, and helpful information for students, families, and anyone interested in learning more about pickleball.

Our Forest Hill second graders traded their classrooms for the pumpkin patch, and let's just say these Foxes know how to FALL into a good time!

From farm adventures to pumpkins galore, this field trip was packed with all the autumn essentials. Fresh air, fall fun and some seriously cute Foxes!

From Houston High to PE classes across GMSD, pickleball is making its way to more students.

Houston High Pickleball Club leaders Shivansh Singla, Greta Newhouse and Watson Purcell are helping younger students learn the game, get moving and prepare for GMSD’s upcoming pickleball intramural opportunities.

What started as a student-led club is now creating opportunities for students and families across the district to play, connect and have fun together. We can’t wait to see where these student leaders take the game next!

Do you remember ... the 21st night of September?

Our Houston Middle School choirs certainly do!

The HMS Mustangs brought a little Earth, Wind & Fire to their fall concert, kicking things off with the iconic "September" before taking audiences on a musical journey through songs inspired by earth, wind and fire.

And because it's spooky season, performers were invited to get into the fall spirit with their favorite Halloween costumes!

Who says learning can’t happen under a desk?

Mrs. Berry’s Bullfrogs celebrated their Boosterthon success with a classroom campout at Dogwood Elementary! Armed with blankets and flashlights, students tackled their math work from their cozy “campsites” and explored magnets in the dark.

It was a creative way to celebrate their hard work while turning an ordinary school day into a memorable adventure. As Mrs. Berry says, “We’re celebrating Boosterthon Bullfrog Style!”

From learning first aid in the classroom to standing in front of adults and teaching it themselves!

Houston High School Health Science students in Lesley Coleman’s class recently had the opportunity to turn their classroom learning into real-world leadership by conducting a hands-on first aid training for REACH employees who provide before- and after-school care for GMSD elementary students.

After spending time in class learning and practicing essential first aid skills, these students became the instructors! They stepped outside their usual roles as learners to demonstrate techniques, explain important procedures, answer questions, and guide adults through skills that could one day help someone in an emergency.

For these students, the experience was about much more than demonstrating what they had learned. It was an opportunity to discover that their knowledge has value beyond the classroom and that they are capable of teaching, leading, and making a difference right now.

And the impact came full circle! While our Health Science students gained valuable experience in leadership, communication, and applying their knowledge, REACH employees strengthened skills that can help them care for our youngest learners.

Students teaching adults. Classroom lessons becoming real-world skills. And learning that makes a difference across GMSD!

Pickleball is having a moment at GMSD, and our students are helping lead the way.

Members of the Houston High Pickleball Club are teaming up with GMSD Coordinated School Health to introduce younger students and families to the sport through two upcoming events at Forest Hill Elementary School.

First up is a Pickleball Clinic on Monday, Oct. 19, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., where Houston High students will step into the role of coaches and help participants learn the basics in a fun, welcoming environment.

Then on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m.-noon, families are invited back for GMSD Pickleball Intramural Day. Students are encouraged to play alongside a parent, guardian or grandparent.

This is not a highly competitive event. The goal is simple: get moving, try something new and enjoy time together on the court.

Houston High students get the chance to lead and mentor, while younger students and families get a new way to connect.

GMSD families, grab a paddle and come play!

Lights, camera, welcome to Houston High!

We're rolling out the red carpet for Vann Tate, Houston High School's newest CTE teacher! Mr. Tate is joining the Mustang family to teach Audio/Visual Production, and his first week is already off to a fantastic start!

We can't wait to see the creativity, storytelling and hands-on learning coming out of his classroom. Welcome to the team, Mr. Tate!

We're sticking our [giraffe] necks out to say ... Dogwood's Little Pod was ADORABLE!

This week, 25 future Dolphins, ages 0 to 4, made a splash at the very first Little Pod gathering! The library came alive with music, puppets, crafts and a story about a dancing giraffe who reminded us that everyone has their own special moves.

These mini Dolphins may be little, but the fun was BIG!
