Wow a real piece of history carried in Pickett's Charge. An officer in Amristead's Brigade who survived the attack. Thanks to Paul Crovo for being with me.

He carried this wallet into Pickett’s Charge.

On July 3, 1863, 23-year-old Thomas A. Hatcher of the 14th Virginia Infantry advanced across the fields of Gettysburg as part of Lewis Armistead’s Brigade during Pickett’s Charge.

Hatcher was wounded and captured during the assault—and with him was this wallet.
In our newest Return to the Battlefield, we bring Hatcher’s wallet back to Gettysburg and share the story of the young Virginia officer who carried it into one of the most famous attacks of the Civil War.

My new Touring Tuesday. Thirty minutes at the Sabine Pass Battleground in Texas for the most lopsided victory of the entire Civil War. Check it out. Thanks to historian and author Edward T. Cotham, Jr., for spending time with me.

41 defenders. Thousands of Union troops. One remarkable Civil War battle.

On September 8, 1863, a small Confederate force commanded by Lt. Richard W. Dowling defended Sabine Pass, Texas, against a major Union expedition attempting to establish a foothold in the state.

The result was one of the most lopsided Confederate victories of the Civil War—and an engagement that helped halt Union efforts to invade Texas in the late summer of 1863.

🎥 NEW TOURING TUESDAY!

Join historian and author Edward T. Cotham, Jr. and NCWM CEO Wayne E. Motts at the Sabine Pass Battleground to explore the site and discover how this extraordinary battle unfolded.
