Did you know Jewish tradition teaches that seeking wisdom is itself a sacred act? For generations, women have shared advice with one another about hormones, menopause and aging. On Monday, 45 women were able to come together to learn about these topics, which are often filled with confusion and misconceptions, rooted in science. Buffalo Jewish Federation thanks Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein and renowned physician Dr. Sarah Berga for leading this important conversation! This past weekend, several Federation staff members and volunteer leaders were proud to support the Jewish Museum of Buffalo by attending "An Evening with Wolf Blitzer" and celebrating the Museum and its geneaology center's public opening. We wish the Museum staff a hearty mazel tov.

The event also launched the opening of the Museum's "Jews in the News" exhibit. This exhibit largely reflects on the life and career of legendary Jewish news anchor Irv Weinstein, but it also highlights a few other Jewish broadcasters who have worked in Buffalo, including Federation's own Erica Brecher!

We are proud to support the Jewish community organizations that make Western New York richer.

Our hearts are so full following several days of programs involving children's author, Nancy Churnin. Aside from the Holocaust Education Resource Organization of Buffalo's annual Librarian Conference, and beyond the incredible partner program we hosted with the The 5/14 Memorial Foundation Inc., we also had the very special opportunity to bring Nancy to two Buffalo schools.

On Tuesday, we partnered not only with the 5/14 Foundation, but also Say Yes Little Scholars and Buffalo Public Schools to read "Manjhi Moves A Mountain" to pre-school aged children at Stanley Makowski PS #99. Then on Thursday, we visited Westminster Community Charter School, where Nancy read "Martin & Anne: The Kindred Spirits of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Anne Frank" to older children.

Helping our youngest learners to understand kindness, empathy, courage, and to appreciate our differences is so important to preventing hatred before it starts. We're so grateful for these special opportunities.

Last night, Buffalo Jewish Federation leaders hosted dinner and conversation for members of the The 5/14 Memorial Foundation Inc. Board and other Black and African American Buffalo leaders, including members of city government and New York State's Executive Chamber. The catalyst for this program was a visit from author Nancy Churnin, who wrote the children’s book "Martin and Anne," which parallels the lives of Martin Luther King Jr. and Anne Frank, who we don’t often think of together, but both of whom were born in 1929 and whose words continue to inspire.

Nancy shared how she came to write this story and her strong desire to inspire hope and courage within young readers. Federation also led a thoughtful conversation about intention, inviting the group to weigh in on how the Jewish and Black communities can work together more moving forward. 🤝📚
