Address markers are so important so we can find your home or driveway in the event of an emergency. This time of year when there are emergencies in fields or away from the farm, it is even more important to know where you are!

Some of us on the GFD might know where "Old McDonald" lived 50 years ago and to turn at the big tree, but some may not... and dispatch definitely won't appreciate those directions... Know where you are and how to get US to YOU in the event of an emergency!

School may have started for our younger citizens, but we can't forget about our young adults that have moved away from the comforts of our community to a new one!

If you are living in a dorm, student housing, or off campus housing, be sure to keep fire safety in mind!

To round out Fire Prevention Week, we just want to say thank you to all of you for your continued support of everything we do here at the GFD.

All 27 of us (missing 2 in the picture) wouldn’t be able to do the job without the backing of our amazing town, townships, and community members. We are all proud and honored to serve each and every one of you.

Fire Prevention 2026 - “Charge into Safety - Safe Charging is a Superpower!”

That’s a wrap on another amazing fire prevention week! We got to share this year’s theme with all of our GFW and PLS Elementary school kids. We taught things like how and where to charge electronic devices safely, talked about having and practicing an escape plan at home with your family. We showed how our appearance changes when we are in our gear, had the ever popular gear race with the 4th graders, and we even conducted a science experiment to show what Thermal Runaway looks like.

We look forward to this day every year, and we are so happy to share fire safety with our students!

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail. For more info: fpw.org.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire. For more info: fpw.org.
