🎃 Halloween Safety Tips from Greenwich Township Police 🎃

Halloween is almost here! Before the trick-or-treating begins, take a few minutes to get your family ready.

• Have children wear reflective material or carry a flashlight
• Inspect all candy before your child eats it
• Accompany young children while they trick-or-treat
• Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls
• Stay on sidewalks and cross at corners or crosswalks

Drivers, please plan ahead too. Expect extra foot traffic, slow down, and stay alert on Halloween night.

Please share so everyone is prepared for a safe and happy Halloween!

Yesterday, Sgt. Bramell took a quick break from patrolling to visit Broad Street Elementary School as a mystery reader in Ms. Fowler’s kindergarten class! 👮

Sgt. Bramell read Officer Buckle & Gloria by Peggy Rathmann, a fun story with a great safety message. Thank you to Ms. Fowler and her students for the warm welcome. It was a pleasure to be there!

🎃 Halloween Night Hours 🎃

Beware, dear residents... the witching hour approaches!

As the ghouls and goblins prepare to haunt our streets on Saturday, October 31, the Police Department recommends that trick-or-treating take place between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, while the daylight still lingers and the shadows are friendly.

Please note that this is a recommendation only and is not defined by ordinance. The township juvenile curfew remains at 10:00 PM, § 317-2; § 317-4.

Why 8:00 PM? As the sun sets earlier each night, the darkness grows deeper and the spooks grow bolder. A few more reasons to wrap up the candy hunt by then:

Safety first: Visibility drops quickly after dark, so little vampires, witches, and superheroes are easier to see in the early evening.

Be a good neighbor: Some of your neighbors may have already blown out their jack-o’-lanterns and settled in for the night. Please be mindful and respectful of porch lights that have gone dark.

Stay spooky, stay safe: Bring a flashlight, wear something reflective, and watch for drivers as you roam from door to door.

From all of us at the Greenwich Township Police Department: have a frightfully fun Halloween, and may your treat bags be full and your tricks be harmless!

The Fire Department walked their way to victory, earning the win and bragging rights for the very first game!

Today’s throwback takes us back to two familiar faces in the history of the Greenwich Township Police Department. Lou “Boobie” Pozielli (right) joined the department in 1951 and went on to serve as Chief of Police until his retirement in 1983. Joe Giordano Sr. joined the department in 1959 and served the community until his retirement as Chief in 2000.

Between them, Lou and Joe gave 73 years of service to Greenwich Township and the residents of Gibbstown. Their dedication helped shape our department and our community.
