Today kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Gig Harbor. We are coming together with community partners, local health advocates, and the help from the Pacific Northwest branch of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, to increase cancer awareness and promote routine health checks and healthy behavior.

We are doing this in alignment with our department mission to provide the Best Possible Service, and to foster health and safety in the greater Gig Harbor community. And we want you to join us!

Watch for our health messages in the city’s Gig-a-byte weekly email newsletter and also shared here on our page.

And, throughout October we are partnering with the Pacific Northwest branch of Susan G. Komen to support cancer research. For every $100 raised, the police department will outfit a police officer with custom pink GHPD patches. Please help us reach our goal of $5,000 to support lifesaving research!

Fraud Alert

The Gig Harbor Police Department has seen an uptick in targeted phishing scams where fraudsters pose as the attorneys of victim’s extended family members, and demand immediate cash payments, offering to send couriers to people’s houses to collect the money. This is a verified scam.

Law enforcement will never come to your house to pick up cash payments. Legitimate government agencies and law enforcement will not demand immediate payment or ask you to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other unusual payment methods to resolve a warrant, fine, or investigation.

If you suspect you’ve been scammed or have questions about the legitimacy of a person, or group of people, unexpectedly demanding money, call 911 or the Gig Harbor Police Department non-emergency dispatch at (253) 287-4455 to file an official police report.

09/12/2026

Today, September 12, we recognize National Police Woman Day and celebrate the women who serve here at the Gig Harbor Police Department and throughout the law enforcement profession.

We are proud of the women who serve GHPD as police officers and of the professionalism, dedication, and commitment they bring to our community every day.

While today provides an opportunity to recognize women in law enforcement, within our department they are first and foremost our colleagues, partners, and police officers, an important part of one team working together to serve Gig Harbor.

We also recognize the women who serve as our Police Services Specialists. While their roles are different from those of our commissioned officers, they are valued members of the GHPD team and play an important role in the day-to-day operation of our department and the service we provide to our community.

Today, we take an extra moment to recognize and thank the women on the GHPD team and women serving communities across the country.

Happy National Police Woman Day!

09/11/2026

Today, we joined our brothers and sisters in the fire service and members of our community to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor the nearly 3,000 people who never made it home, the first responders who ran toward danger, and those who have carried the lasting effects of that day ever since.

September 11 reminds us of extraordinary sacrifice, but also of a nation that came together in the face of tragedy. Strangers helped strangers, communities stood together, and Americans took care of one another.

Today, we remember those we lost. We honor those who answered the call. And we remain grateful for the privilege of serving our community alongside our partners in the fire service.

We will never forget.

Thank you, Gig Harbor!

BOLO: Be On the Lookout (for Her Owner)

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on August 26, 2026, we located and impounded this sweet girl in the area of Point Fosdick Drive and Olympic Drive in Gig Harbor.

She has been taken into protective custody while we work to identify and locate her human.

Although she got to play Chief for the morning, we’re pretty sure she’d rather be home! If she’s yours, or you know who her owner may be, please contact the Gig Harbor Police Department so we can get her home where she belongs. 🐾

As always, we appreciate our community’s help spreading the word!
