For the People, by Jack Wingo, is now on display outside HD SOUTH - Home of the Gilbert Historical Museum! 🪶 ✨

At the heart of the piece is a Fancy Shawl Dancer inspired by Jack’s niece, Kamuvelk (Kami), reflecting back to her days dancing Fancy Shawl as a tiny tot. The dancer’s blank face invites any Native girl or woman to see herself in the artwork, honoring identity, heritage, and possibility.

Jack’s installation weaves together land elements, cultural patterns, and a tribute to the Akimel O'odham and Maricopa (Piipaash) Peoples creating a story of love, appreciation, and respect. ✍️

As a former Gilbert Native American Management Intern, we're thrilled to celebrate Jack's new installation, created through Gilbert's Community Canvas program. 🖼️

Visit the installation on the west side of the HD SOUTH building and continue exploring Gilbert’s public art scene with our interactive Art Map at glbrt.is/ArtMap.

It’s Food Waste Prevention Week, and fall flavors don’t have to come with food waste. Give your kitchen scraps a second life with cozy recipes made from what you already have! 🥕 🎃

- Banana Bread from those almost-too-ripe bananas
- Croutons from leftover or stale bread
- Homemade broth using veggie or chicken scraps
- Pumpkin purée from fresh carving leftovers

Let’s make fall delicious and waste‑free. 🍌 🥖

Can't save your food scraps? Composting is the next best thing! Gilbert offers free composting bins for residents, which are available for pickup at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. We repurpose out‑of‑service trash bins into compost bins, so supplies are limited. Learn more at glbrt.is/Composting.

If composting isn't an option, make sure to bag and tie your food scraps before disposing of them in the trash. Food scraps should never end up in your recycling bin.

Good news, Gilbert! The new signal at the Santan Vista Trail Crossing at Ray Road is now live, improving safety for all who walk, run, and ride through the area. 🚶‍♂️🏃‍♀️🚴

This is the first of several upgrades found in the 2020 Safety Improvements for Trail Crossings Report, funded through system development fees and voter-approved transportation bonds.

Here’s how the signal works:

Flashing Yellow ➡️ Signal is activated
Solid Yellow ➡️ Prepare to stop
Solid Red ➡️ All drivers must stop
Flashing Red ➡️ Full stop and go once safe

Next up: San Tan Vista Trail Crossing at Pecos Road and two crossings on the Heritage Trail are coming later this year.
