We are thrilled to announce that Gilman Fire and Rescue has been selected to receive a grant for around $29,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Assistance for Firefighters Grant!!!

This grant will be used to replace all remaining 1.75", 2.5", and 4" fire hose and nozzles, as well as add a ground monitor/deck monitor and thermal imaging camera for the new truck. Some of the equipment being replaced is around 30 years old or older and in pretty poor shape. This grant from FEMA helps us to be able to provide better fire protection to the citizens in and around our community by ensuring all equipment is up to date in accordance with NFPA standards, as well as reliable and functional.

We'd like to thank Fire Grants Expert for helping us out with our grant; but most importantly, thank you to our state representatives for approving this federal funding that assists rural fire departments and the residents we help protect. Grants such as this are so valuable to us so that we are able to provide the best fire protection possible. Without them, we'd be stuck with using equipment that was unsafe, ineffective, an non compliant.

A lot of you may have noticed the wooden markers going up in alleys and yards - this is part of the Alliant project.

*DO NOT REMOVE THESE MARKERS*

‼️ If you remove these markers and they hit a utility, the cost of repairs and penalties are the responsibility of the homeowner‼️

They have 30 days from placing these markers to complete the project.

Followers please help us spread the word to anyone passing through Gilman!

School is no longer in session in Gilman, but that doesn't mean students aren't being dropped of at the middle school and then bussed to Legrand or Laurel. Please pay special attention to the stop signs at the middle school because East Marshall Community Schools is no longer having a crossing guard on duty to assist children across the busy highway!

We'd like to wish all teachers a students a great 26/27 school year!

GILMAN -- Members of the Gilman Volunteer Fire Department celebrated a moment that was at least 2 ½ years in the making on Saturday morning with the first ever push-in ceremony for a new truck as they replaced a vehicle that was nearly 40 years old.

Gilman Fire Chief Jacob Patterson, who also works full-time as a firefighter with the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD), said the city council and township trustees have been onboard from the get go, but the biggest struggle, of course, was figuring out a way to pay for it without raising taxes.

"We had money set aside in the budget for a truck payment, so we used that money and then kind of funneled some money around in other places to make it work," he said.

We are 10 days away from the push-in ceremony for Truck 221!! While it may seems silly to some, the ceremony is a fire service tradition that we invite the whole community as well and members of surrounding departments and retired Gilman firefighters to attend. It should only take around 15 to 20 minutes and we would love to see everyone there!!
