π¨ BIG RIG OVERTURN CRASH ON US-101 π¨
On May 5th at approximately 11:56 PM, a big rig hauling 54,000 pounds of liquid asphalt overturned on northbound US-101, north of Buena Vista Road. Approximately 200 gallons of liquid asphalt spilled into the dirt median as a result of the crash.
Due to the incident, 2 of the 3 northbound lanes were shut down for several hours, significantly impacting the morning commute. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
The California Highway Patrol reminds everyone to drive alert, avoid distractions, and always travel at a safe speed. Your life depends on it.

π¨ CHP HOLLISTER-GILROY AREA BATTLES RETAIL THEFT π¨
Hollister-Gilroy Area Officers quickly sprang into action after a suspect targeted local businesses, including Sunglass Hut and Walmart, stealing sunglasses and a mountain bike valued at over $1,000 β a felony offense.
After dispatch broadcasted a BOL (Be On the Lookout), officers located the suspect driving a STOLEN vehicle within minutes of the crime. Thanks to rapid response and coordinated efforts, the situation was brought under control swiftly and safely.
Retail theft impacts our entire community. The CHP remains committed to protecting businesses and holding offenders accountable.

π¦ This last rain period got the best of a lot of drivers. During inclement weather, driving at a slower speed is key. This errant driver was unable to negotiate the curved roadway, it lost control and struck a power pole.
The California Highway Patrol reminds everyone to slow down during inclement weather, check your tires for sufficient tread depth, and drive safe.

π¨ DUI ON A BIKE? π¨
Is riding a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs illegal? YES.
Is it dangerous? YES.
This person decided to ride his bike on the freeway in the slow lane, while intoxicated. He was almost struck by freeway traffic early this morning. Luckily for everyone, Officer Hansen was able to locate him after multiple calls from concerned motorists. After a DUI evaluation, the bicyclist was placed under arrest for DUI on a bike.
If you ever notice an impaired driver on the road, the California Highway Patrol encourages you to call 911 and report it. In a combined effort, we can all help keep our roadways safe.
