Girard Kansas Police Department This is the official page for the Girard Kansas Police Department Est. July 2023 This page is the official facebook account for the Girard Police Department.

The Girard Police Department has an interest in engaging, informing, and cultivating its stakeholder audience using traditional as well as new media. Social media has become one of the main channels of communication for many and is an excellent communication tool for public organizations. By leveraging social media as a primary communication tool, we are engaging our customers on their terms and supporting our business goals. Communication informs, educates, listens, and responds. Sharing information from other agencies, individuals, businesses or organizations can help the public better understand the issues, influences, concerns, challenges, and opportunities before us as a public entity. Sharing our own original content personalizes our messages and demonstrates our “social persona.” In social media, there are appropriate occasions for both original and shared content. Everything we do on social media ties back to our brand and the membership we serve. We use social media for:
· Organizational press releases, announcements, media information, event information, photos, job opportunities, and resources. We do not share or post:
· Political advocacy information (endorsements) or crude, rude, offensive, or derogatory statements. Public Records Law:
Agency social media sites are subject to applicable public records laws. Any content maintained in a social media format related to agency business, including communication posted by the Agency and communication received from citizens, is a public record. The Department maintaining the site is responsible for responding completely and accurately to any public records request for social media content.

HR and Chief are suggesting we start making new employees sign a Facebook waiver before I’m allowed to use them for content. 🤣

Apparently, “you knew what you signed up for” isn’t a legally binding consent form. Something about consent, liability, and my questionable definition of “team building.”

Personally, I think they’re overreacting. 💅🚔

We don't know who needs to hear this, but the pumpkin shaped Reese's taste better than the regular ones.

Just a friendly reminder, it’s window open season. We can ALL hear you yelling at your kids. Some of y’all got the whole neighborhood brushing their teeth, putting on pajamas, and going to bed.

A reminder for Girard residents:

Girard city ordinance prohibits owning, keeping, harboring, or possessing Pit Bulls, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, and dogs or mixes covered by its breed definitions within city limits. This includes dogs with predominantly those breeds appearance and characteristics.

While some may disagree with the breed restrictions, owners are responsible for knowing and following city ordinance. These restrictions will be enforced.

The Chiefs won. The Raiders….were also there.

Unfortunately, Officer Coen is a Raiders fan.
Please respect his privacy during this difficult time.

To the public safety part of this post: Celebrate the win responsibly. Buckle up, slow down, put the phone away, use your turn signal, and if you’ve been drinking, find a sober ride home.

You have work Monday and knees that crack when you stand up.

Go home. Light a fall candle. Eat a snack.

You are not about that life anymore.Lock your car. Behave. Your only charge tonight should be your phone.

October 8–19, Girard Police will have additional officers out targeting speeding as part of NHTSA’s Speeding Catches Up With You campaign. And yes, other traffic violations will still be enforced.

Speeding gives you less time to react and increases the distance needed to stop. A vehicle braking ahead, a pedestrian crossing, or a deer entering the road can leave you with very little room for error.

Follow posted speed limits, leave a safe following distance, and slow down when conditions require it.

Let’s make safe driving an everyday habit. Not a reaction to seeing a patrol car.

We’ve all been there.

You’re cruising along, doing the speed limit, minding your business….Then someone pulls out RIGHT in front of you just to go 12 mph slower.

Bestie. There was nobody behind me.

Chief said to be nice, so we’ll just say this:

✨Please✨ stop pulling out like you’re in a hurry and then immediately forgetting where you were going.

Check both ways. Yield to traffic. Don’t be that car.
