❗Boil Water Advisory Issued for the City of McCune❗

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a Boil Water Advisory for the City of McCune public water supply system in Crawford County.

The advisory took effect on September 17, 2026 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk have been resolved and KDHE rescinds the advisory.

Customers should follow these precautions until further notice:

• Boil water for one minute before drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water.
• Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from household automatic icemakers.
• If tap water appears dirty, flush water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
• Disinfect dishes and food contact surfaces by soaking for at least one minute in clean tap water mixed with one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
• Water used for bathing generally does not need to be boiled. Children should be supervised while bathing to prevent swallowing water. Those with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physician.

KDHE issued the advisory due to equipment failure that resulted in a loss of pressure. Loss of pressure may lead to loss of chlorine residuals and possible bacterial contamination.

Only KDHE can issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.

For questions, contact the City of McCune water system at 620-249-9982 or KDHE at 785-296-5514. Restaurants and food establishments may contact the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety & Lodging Program at 785-564-6767.

And yet again, we are under another Heat Advisory… because apparently summer isn’t ready to leave just yet.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 AM today through 8 PM Tuesday, with heat index values up to 105 expected across the area.

We may be almost to fall, but it sure won’t feel like it for the next couple of days. Hot temperatures and high humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses, so please take precautions.

Drink plenty of water, stay in air conditioning when possible, limit time outdoors, and check on relatives, neighbors, pets, and anyone without reliable cooling.

Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
