Giving families a place for their loved one to be remembered is what the Girard Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service is all about. We hope you'll join us this Sunday October 18th at 2pm as we honor 204 of our nations firefighters who died in the line of duty.

You are cordially invited to attend the 39th Annual Girard Fire Department Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Sunday October 18th at 2.P.M. The service will be held at the Girard Fire Department 116 North Ozark Street.

This year's Roll of Honor will include 204 of our nations firefighters whose names were added to the National Memorial in Emittsburg, Maryland. We will also honor the 21 Southeast Kansas firefighters whose names are on the Southeast Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial, located on the Girard Fire Department Memorial Grounds.

This weekend was a busy weekend for the Southeast Kansas Firefighters Honor Guard. With presentation of colors at opening ceremonies of LCC Fire School. Opening ceremonies for the Fort Scott Fire Department Stair Climb and the blessing of the first responders in Girard.

Today we Pause to remember Chief Jean R. Charles of the Altamont=Mount Pleasant Township Fire Department who died in the line of duty 41 years ago today.

Chief Charles had responded to a grass fire along the west side of Highway 59. A milk truck driving in the southbound lane drove through the smoke striking the fire pumper truck. The impact caused the fire apparatus to roll over and into the ditch, pinning Chief Charles underneath it, killing him. After striking the fire apparatus the milk truck also hit a northbound automobile head on, killing the passenger of that vehicle as well. A firefighter who was removing fire hose from the fire apparatus at the time of impact survived.
Chief Charles, we honor your memory, and you are not forgotten.

Southeast Kansas Firefighters Honor Guard President Duane Banzet is honored to announce his appointment by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly to the Kansas Firefighters Memorial Advisory Committee.

Today Southeast Kansas Honor Guard and Members of the Pleasanton and Linn County Fire Departments were honored to assist on the memorial service of retired Pleasanton and Linn County Firefighter Clayton Lee Nash. The service was held today In Paola, Kansas.

A big thank you to Jeff Wisdom, Renna and Joshua Marshall and Luke Coyer for honoring the service of firefighter Nash.

Today we pause to remember the life of Firefighter Christopher Brown who tragically lost his life in the line of duty 20 years ago today.

Christopher joined the La Harpe Kansas Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 19. According to his wife Tamara Christopher wanted to be a firefighter because he had a fear of dying in a fire. On July 27th Christopher was driving his vehicle to Manhattan, Kansas to pick up some donated Fire equipment from the Kansas Forrest Service, for reasons not known while enroute to Manhattan Christopher's vehicle crossed the center line and struck a semi-truck, killing him. Christopher was only 20 years old.

Christopher you are not forgotten and we thank you for your dedication and service!
