Defendant Sentenced for Robbery

On Tuesday, a Clay County judge sentenced Defendant Christopher Kennedy to 12 years in prison for the charge of Robbery in the 2nd Degree.

Gladstone officers rushed to a residence after a woman called 911 to report that she had locked herself in her car after an attempted carjacking just occurred in front of her home. Kennedy approached her vehicle after she had arrived home and then attempted to pull her from the car. The woman bravely fought back against Kennedy. During the struggle Kennedy took the woman’s car keys and left the scene on foot.

Kennedy ran when he first saw police and jumped a fence, but officers and a KCPD K-9 unit found and arrested him. This sentence delivers justice for our community and the victim and sends a message that dangerous criminal activity will not be tolerated in Clay County.

We thank the Gladstone MO Police, the Court, and our Assistant Prosecutors for their tireless work and dedication, which allowed us to hold this offender accountable and create a safer community for all.

Police Pursuit Leads to Charges

Monday, we charged Defendant Brandon Walker with Unlawful Possession of A Fi***rm and Aggravated Fleeing (Valentine’s Law).

The charges follow an incident that began on September 20th, when Gladstone Police Officers were called to conduct a welfare check on a man sleeping in the driver’s seat of his vehicle while the car was running. According to the probable cause statement, Officers approached the vehicle and called out to Walker in an attempt to wake him, noticing Walker had a black pistol between his legs while sleeping. Officers then opened the car door and held onto Walker’s arm to wake him up. Police reports say upon waking up, commands were given to Walker to put his hands on the steering wheel. Instead of complying, Walker allegedly shifted the vehicle from park to drive and took off. Officers let go of his arm and a pursuit began.

Officers followed Walker, who they saw doing donuts behind a business before driving north on N. Antioch Road. Walker then allegedly drove west on N. Wabash, turned west on NE 64th Street, and continued north onto Flora Avenue. Reports say Walker then turned west on NE 66th Street, and stopped for officers, who were able to arrest him without incident.

The Court issued an arrest warrant and set bond at $25,000.

We thank the Gladstone MO Police Department for their hard work and collaboration, which allowed us to successfully file charges within 24 hours.

The information above was obtained from the court-filed probable cause statement in case 26CY-CR02716. All individuals mentioned are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges are allegations only and do not constitute evidence of guilt. The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office remains committed to seeking justice inside the courtroom.

Decade Sentence for Robbery/Resisting Arrest

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alyssa Benjamin secured a 10-year prison sentence for Defendant Iszuwuan Quinn on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree and Resisting Arrest.

The sentence stems from a June 6, 2025 incident where Quinn attempted to steal liquor from a store on N. Oak Trafficway. When confronted, he injured an employee with a bottle and fled in a vehicle, leading Gladstone Police Department officers on a high-speed chase down Highway 169 at speeds of 110 MPH. Quinn eventually crossed into Riverside, where he ditched his car and fled on foot. He was quickly captured thanks to a coordinated effort by KCPD helicopter 690 and a Platte County Sheriff’s Department K9 unit.

This case is a strong example of law enforcement agencies working together to pursue a dangerous suspect and bring him to justice. We are grateful to the officers who responded, pursued, and apprehended Quinn, as well as the Court and our Assistant Prosecutors for their work in seeing this case through.

Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation.

We pause to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, the countless families whose lives were changed forever, and the extraordinary courage displayed by first responders, military members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

As law enforcement officers, we hold a special place in our hearts for the police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other public servants who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others. Their bravery and selflessness remain an enduring example of service above self.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their memory, reflect on the resilience of our nation, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting and serving our community.

We will never forget.
