Today, we mourn the tragic loss of Trooper Hayden Phillips, who was killed in the line of duty while serving and protecting others.

Trooper Phillips made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community and his fellow citizens. His courage, dedication, and commitment to duty will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Phillips’ family, friends, fellow troopers, and everyone who had the honor of knowing and serving alongside him during this heartbreaking time.

Rest easy, Trooper Phillips.

We had our annual class d worker and staff bbq today! Every inmate that works outside of the facility on road crews and hall/kitchen workers was treated to a bbq meal, an electronic e-cig, and bag of coffee. Just a small token of appreciation for the hard work that they do. This was done at no expense to the taxpayers or county.

This is part of our yield from the inmate garden. Daily gardening is a routine activity for inmates, and the entire jail population benefits from the fresh produce.

A new program, Books Behind Bars, has been introduced at the Barren County Detention Center for eligible inmates and their children. Detention Center Deputy Tiffany Sturgeon partners with Family Enrichment to provide inmates with the chance to record themselves reading a book aloud for their child. The hard copy of the book and the video recording are delivered to the child's custodian free of charge, facilitating shared experience. This initiative enables inmates to preserve a positive connection with their child.
