I had a frightfully great time at the Plainview Old-Bethpage Senior Citizen Club Halloween Party! I was also proud to announce a treat for the club in the form of a $30,000 grant I secured to support this amazing organization. My sincere thanks go to Club Director Lorraine (Lori) Charletta and POB Schools Coordinator of Community Services Cheryl Dender for all their hard work organizing events like this and other great activities throughout the year to keep our beloved seniors active and healthy. Wishing a fun and safe Halloween to all!

Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Scott J. Beigel Unfinished Receiver Act into law 5 years ago this week. I proudly sponsored that bill in the Assembly and today issued the following statement:

This week I had a very enlightening visit to Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC) High School in Uniondale. I joined Principal Rabbi Eli Slomnicki for a tour of this wonderful facility. Then, Kol Yisroel Founder & CEO Shmulie Hartstein and I met with students for a wide-ranging discussion. We covered several topics, including the fascinating political situation in Israel. I also stressed the critical nature in any democracy of having open and honest dialog.

I never get tired of visiting the Glen Cove Senior Center, especially when there’s good news to share. I was thrilled to be back to announce $60,000 in state funding I secured to support this incredible organization. In addition to Executive Director Christine Rice and Activities Coordinator Eric Shuman, I want to recognize the hardworking and enthusiastic staff who plan, develop and coordinate programs and services. And not to be forgotten, the amazing kitchen crew who provide delicious meals members truly enjoy.

My visit to Drexel Avenue Elementary School in Westbury was a reminder of why I take so much pride in representing the 13th Assembly District. It was so rewarding to be able to announce a $250,000 grant I secured to cover the cost of renovations to the auditorium here and at Park Avenue Elementary School. But the reception I received from Westbury Union Free School District officials, teachers, and students was one I will never forget. I am so proud of the progress this amazing district continues to make under the extraordinary leadership of Superintendent Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase, and I will continue to do all in my power to ensure it gets all the support possible from the state.

When a Jericho resident contacted my office about a crumbling highway sound wall on the LIE, my office worked with the New York State Department of Transportation to get it fixed. These illustrative before-and-after photos tell the story. Just an example of how effectively my constituent services team can improve the quality of life for the 13th Assembly District.

So great to join students and faculty to participate in Connolly Elementary School’s 14th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk-a-Thon in Glen Cove! The event which coincides with , is a fun and healthy way to educate kids about the second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. The event raised a record-breaking total of $1,691 in donations benefitting Glen Cove CARES, the American Cancer Society, and the Katz Institute for Women's Health.

A special day at the Glen Cove Senior Center as Senior Recognition Day was celebrated! It was so great to spend time catching up with the vibrant members of this amazing organization. My sincere thanks go to Executive Director Christine Rice and the entire staff for all you do for our beloved seniors. It was also a special treat to meet adorable therapy dog Aspen who is quite a celebrity here at the center!

It was my privilege to present a citation to my dear friend Roger Tilles as the Long Island Arts Alliance honored him for his decades of service to the arts, education, and civic life. The event was held fittingly at the extraordinary venue that bears his name, the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, on the campus of LIU (Long Island University) in Brookville. As a founder of the LIA and longtime member of the New York State Board of Regents, Roger has contributed immensely to both the local art community and public education, both of which are near and dear to my heart. Congratulations Roger!
