Where there’s a need, there’s a LION
On July 12, 1923, Melvin Jones, the founder of Lions International, stepped off the Northwestern train in Glen Ellyn to organize a Lions Club - making the Glen Ellyn Lions Club the oldest service organization in DuPage County. Glen Ellyn was the first club in the Chicagoland area to be founded! It took Rotary 30 more years to come to town, and 40 more years for Kiwanis. As we go into 2018, this will be out 95th year as a service club!
We have numerous fundraisers through out the year. The funds raised during our events are given back to the community through donations to non-profits and similar volunteer organizations in the area. Along with fundraising, we also provide crucial vision and hearing screenings to detect vision and hearing difficulties early. With our services we are able to help find issues early on, to prevent major issues later on. Our final pillar is volunteerism. We live by the motto “We Serve” which means we will be available for our community when they need us. We are dedicated to volunteering for causes that help our community members, reach out to us if you need volunteers! We are here to help build up our community and we will continue to provide vision screenings, hearing screenings, and volunteer services to those in need. Join us for our bi monthly meetings at Barones in Glen Ellyn 475 Pennsylvania Ave, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 7pm! We would love to have you!
