🍂 Before you turn up the heat, take a few steps to keep your home safe!

âś… Have your furnace and other fuel-burning heating equipment serviced annually by a qualified professional.
âś… Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
âś… Keep furniture, blankets and anything that can burn at least three feet from space heaters and fireplaces.

Carbon monoxide is invisible and odorless. If your CO alarm sounds, get everyone outside to fresh air and call 911.

North Shore Fire/Rescue wants you to stay warm—and safe—this fall!

A thick coat can compress in a crash, leaving the harness too loose to do its job.

Sweater weather is officially here, and that means one more thing to check before you buckle up: removing the bulky coat before buckling the car seat. A thick coat can compress in a crash, leaving the harness too loose to do its job. Buckle and secure the harness first, then you can add the coat over the top or use it as a blanket instead. This small move can make a big difference in how well the harness can protect your rider.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire. For more info: fpw.org

Charge Into Fire Safety! Safe Charging Is a Superpower.

During Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, North Shore Fire/Rescue is joining fire departments across the Country to highlight safe charging habits for the rechargeable devices we use every day.

Help prevent lithium-ion battery fires:
âś… Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface—never on a bed, couch or under a pillow.
âś… Unplug devices when fully charged.
âś… Stop using a device if it becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks or makes strange sounds.

Fire prevention is part of our work year-round. Make safe charging part of your everyday routine!
