Here's a breast cancer statistic worth remembering.

When breast cancer is detected early, before it has spread beyond the breast, the 5-year relative survival rate is over 99%.

Early detection can save lives, and cost shouldn't stand in the way of getting screened.

Did you know that Montana has a Cancer Screening Program that helps eligible women access free or low-cost breast and cervical cancer screenings?

Right here in Dawson County, our Family Planning program also offers breast and cervical cancer screening services, with fees based on a sliding scale.

💗 Don't let cost or lack of insurance keep you from taking care of your health.

Flu season is here, and now is a great time to protect yourself! 💙💉

Getting your annual flu vaccine is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of getting sick with influenza and developing serious complications.

Even healthy adults can get the flu, and vaccination can help reduce the severity of illness if you do get sick.

A few things to remember:

💉 Everyone 6 months and older is recommended to get a flu vaccine each season, with rare exceptions.

⏰ It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to build protection.

❤️ Getting vaccinated can also help protect people around you who are at greater risk of serious illness.

Haven't gotten your flu shot yet? We can help!

Flu vaccinations are available at the Dawson County Health Department.

Think about everything your bones and joints help you do in a single day. 🚶

Getting out of bed, climbing stairs, carrying groceries, playing with your kids or grandkids, or simply going for a walk. We rely on our bones, joints, and muscles for almost everything we do.

October 12–20 is Bone and Joint Action Week, bringing attention to conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, back pain, and injuries that can affect mobility and quality of life.

The good news? There are everyday habits that can help support your bone and joint health!

🦴 Stay active with regular walking and strength-building exercises.

🥛 Get enough calcium and vitamin D to support strong bones.

💪 Take breaks from sitting and make movement part of your daily routine.

🏡 Reduce fall risks by keeping walkways clear and improving lighting at home.

Taking care of your bones and joints today helps you keep doing the things you love tomorrow.

Some losses are felt for a lifetime, even when the time together was brief. 💜

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to recognize the families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or the loss of an infant.

For many families, this grief is carried quietly.

This month is a reminder that every loss matters, every family's grief deserves acknowledgment, and no one should feel they have to grieve alone.

If someone you know has experienced pregnancy or infant loss, remember that you don't need the perfect words. Acknowledging their loss, listening without judgment, and remembering their baby can mean more than you realize. 💜

Something so simple can prevent so much! 🧼💙

Think about everything your hands touch throughout the day. Door handles, shopping carts, phones, keyboards, and countless other surfaces.

Now think about how often those same hands touch your face, prepare food, or come into contact with other people.

Washing your hands with soap and water for just 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of germs that cause illnesses like colds, flu, and stomach bugs.

This Global Handwashing Day, remember that one of the easiest ways to protect yourself and the people around you is also one of the most effective.

Clean hands save lives! 🫧

382,640 women. 💗

That's how many women are estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. in 2026.

That's more than 1,000 women every single day.

Think about the women in your life. Your mom, sister, daughter, best friend, coworker, or neighbor. Breast cancer can affect anyone, and chances are, someone you know has already been impacted.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to do one thing: start a conversation.

Ask the women in your life if they're up to date on their mammograms. Encourage someone who's been putting off a screening. Offer to go with a friend who's nervous about an appointment.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with a simple conversation. 💗

Getting vaccinated isn't just about protecting yourself. It's also about protecting the people around you.

For people undergoing cancer treatment, living with weakened immune systems, or facing certain health conditions, infections like the flu can lead to serious complications.

Staying up to date on recommended vaccinations helps reduce the spread of preventable illnesses and can provide an extra layer of protection for those who are most vulnerable.

Whether it's a friend, family member, teammate, or neighbor, your decision to get vaccinated can make a difference for someone else.

Sometimes, we do it for them 💙

💉 Vaccinations are available at the Dawson County Health Department! Call (406) 377-5213 to learn more or schedule an appointment.

Talking about mental illness matters.

When people feel like they have to hide what they’re experiencing, stigma grows. Open, respectful conversations can help replace assumptions with understanding and remind people that they aren’t alone.

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, we can all help create a community where people feel safer speaking up, asking questions, and reaching out for help when they need it.

Sometimes change starts with simply being willing to listen.
