🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸
Today, the Officers and Members of the Glenn Dale Fire Association pause to remember the lives forever changed on September 11, 2001.
Twenty-five years have passed since our nation witnessed one of its darkest days, but for so many, the memories remain as vivid as if it were yesterday.
We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon, and aboard the four hijacked aircraft.
We remember the 343 members of the FDNY, 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department, 23 members of the NYPD, and all of the first responders who ran toward danger while thousands of others were trying to escape it.
We remember those at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, where American Airlines Flight 77 struck the building. We honor the 184 people who lost their lives aboard the aircraft and at the Pentagon, and we remember the firefighters, police officers, military personnel, EMS crews, and countless others from across the Washington metropolitan area who responded that morning.
We remember the 40 passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93 who lost their lives near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Knowing their aircraft had been hijacked and that others had already struck the World Trade Center and Pentagon, they fought back. Their courage prevented the terrorists from reaching their intended target and undoubtedly saved countless lives.
“Let’s roll.”
Those words and the actions of the passengers and crew of Flight 93 remain a powerful example of courage and sacrifice in the face of unimaginable circumstances.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, dispatchers, healthcare workers, and ordinary Americans who showed extraordinary courage in the hours, days, weeks, and months that followed.
We also remember those who survived September 11 but later lost their lives to illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, Shanksville, and the recovery efforts that followed. Their sacrifice must never be forgotten.
September 11th reminds us of the very best of the fire service and of our nation: courage, sacrifice, brotherhood, service, and the willingness to answer the call no matter the cost.
A generation has now grown up without firsthand memories of that day. It is our responsibility to make sure they understand what happened, remember those we lost, and recognize the sacrifices made by so many.
Today, we lower our heads in remembrance and raise our flag with pride.
To the fallen, their families, the survivors, and everyone who answered the call:
We remember you.
We honor you.
We will NEVER forget.
