Immediate Release –Structure fire at 90 Fremont St.
At 11:18 pm last evening the Gloversville and Johnstown Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a structure fire with people trapped at 90 Fremont St. in the City of Gloversville. Upon arrival, Batt Chief Stephen West confirmed a working fire and had one occupant that had exited the building on to a third-floor balcony above the fire. FF Anthony Schonfarber and FF Ben Wager stretched a handline into the second-floor apartment to extinguish the main body of fire while FF Phlander Hart and FF David Malagisi were assisted by GPD Sgt. Bill Christman as they placed a ground ladder to the second story porch roof and an additional ground ladder up to the third story balcony. FF David Malagisi climbed up the ladder to assist the occupant down to safety. Batt. Chief West requested the Gloversville Fourth Battalion to assist.
The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes, and the fire damage was limited to the second floor apartment of origin with some water damage to the first floor apartment. Everyone on the lower floors escaped safely and no firefighters were injured.
Gloversville Police Department members Steven Kolbe, Madison Maddocks, Bryce Murenus and Noah Loucks assisted GFD in setting up water supply, traffic control and scene security.
The fire displaced two adults and one child and the Red Cross was called in to assist them. Lake Valley evaluated one occupant at the scene who refused further treatment. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental by the Gloversville Fire Department Fire Investigation Team. All units were back in service at 1:55 am.

Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes: National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 🎧💙
This week, April 12th–18th, is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
While you may never see their faces, these dedicated professionals are the calm voice on the other end of the line during your worst moments. They are the "Golden Thread" that connects a person in crisis to the help they need. They juggle multiple radio frequencies, monitor GPS locations, and provide life-saving instructions—all while keeping our deputies safe.
To our dispatchers here at the Sheriff’s Office: Thank you. Thank you for your steady nerves, your sharp minds, and your heart for service. You are the heartbeat of our emergency response, and we couldn't do our jobs without you.
Please join me this week in showing some extra appreciation for these behind-the-scenes heroes. If you know a dispatcher, reach out and say thanks!
