TRAINING NOTICE: Operation "Bring Our Own Ocean" hits Goffstown this Sunday, October 25th (9 AM - Noon)!

Since fire hydrants don't grow on trees in the woods, we are taking our massive tanker trucks into the wild to suck water out of local swamps and play the world’s most aggressive game of "fill the bucket."

Expect a parade of red metal playing a game of bumper-to-bumper Tetris at Brien Road, Wallace Road, Mountain Base Road, Worthley Hill Road, Back Mountain Road, Shirley Hill Road, Ferson Road and especially Tipping Rock Road.

We won't be using lights or sirens, so you won’t hear us coming—you’ll just suddenly find your Sunday morning hijacked by a 40-ton sloshing roadblock that steers like a runaway vending machine. We're doing this to train our rookies, practice with our bordering towns and prove flow rates to the insurance gods so we can lower your homeowner's insurance premiums (you're welcome!).

Please take a detour or use extra caution in these areas. Unless, of course, your ideal weekend involves sitting in traffic, staring down the tailpipe of a fire engine.

Welcome to the Goffstown Family! (And to Dish Duty!)

Please join us in giving a massive welcome to our two newest recruits, Nate Letellier and Thomas Keon!

Choosing a career in the fire service takes a special kind of dedication. It means answering the call at any hour, putting the safety of strangers above your own, and—perhaps most importantly—learning how to cook a meal for a hungry crew who will judge your culinary skills worse than Gordon Ramsey.

They’ve already put in countless hours of grueling training, sweat, and hard work to earn their badges. Now comes the real test: navigating the station pranks, surviving the crew's relentless banter, and discovering that "probationary firefighter" is actually just code for "official coffee maker."

To their families: Thank you for trusting us with them. When they joined this department, you became a part of our extended family, too. We promise to always look out for them on the fireground—and to make sure they call you back between cleaning the trucks.

Nate and Thomas, welcome to the best job in the world.

Drop a comment below to help us welcome them (and maybe offer some station survival tips)!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

Let it be known throughout the realm that the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off & Regatta commences October 17-18, 2026. Main Street shall be barred to all horse and carriage, the Piscataquog clogged with hoards of gourds, and the fire brigade on full alert.

If thou shall attend, heed these decrees, lest ye be thrown into the village stocks:

The Pageant of Beasts
Should ye clothe thy hound as a pumpkin spice latte, pray ensure the beast possesses a fondness for nutmeg. Untangling a furious, snapping hound from a lace tutu is a nightmare we shall not suffer.

The Tournament of Pies
Tis an exhibition of perilous, gluttonous plight. We implore thee with the utmost gravity: chew thy food! We desire not the dark irony of deploying a life-saving crew for a choking contender to an arena hosted by the local mortician. Do not become a customer before thy time.

The Apple Slingshot
High-velocity flying fruit is a grand spectacle until the laws of physics splat one on thy snout. Keep ye distance! If a projectile "tree onion" appeareth to grow larger before thine eyes, tis no illusion—it is incoming. Duck, ye fools!

The Main Event
And lo, grown citizens shall crawl inside the hollowed-out bellies of giant vegetables to drag-race down the river currents. Pumpkins do not possess maritime-approved hulls! If ye strike a stone near the bridge and take on water, do not send a smoke signal to 911 demanding a "gourd-side tow." Standing majestically upon the stem as thy vegetable sinks to the muddy deep will not make thee look like Captain Jack Sparrow. It shall only make thee wet and foolish.

Feast upon the victuals of the food vendors, plunder the wares of the craftsmen, and by the heavens—keep the pumpkins on the scales and out of our infirmary!

D'OH, it’s Fire Prevention Week again....

This year’s official theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety." But since that sounds too polite, let’s translate: Stop trying to manifest a house fire with your electronics!

If you do any of the following, consider this your formal, legally non-binding intervention before we have to hose down your stuff:

It' Gettin Hot in Herre
To the person currently sleeping with a charging phone tucked under three fuzzy blankets: What is the endgame? Are you trying to hatch it? It’s a lithium battery, not a chicken egg. Unless you want a 3:00 AM spicy awakening, let it breathe on a flat, solid surface. Nelly told y'all.

That $2 gas station cable is a threat.
Yes, the neon pink, braided cord you bought next to the stale donuts is very pretty. No, it is not safe. That $2 cord has zero thoughts and zero safety standards. Spend the mulah on OEM components, it's worth it! (how many of you had to look up OEM?) 😉

Jenga Pile of Shame
Plugging a power strip into a power strip, into another power strip, just to juice up your e-bike, v**e, headphones, and your smart watch all at once isn't "efficient." It's an electrical cry for help. That isn't a power setup; it’s a modern art installation titled "Local Fire Department's Job Security."

The Pregnant Battery
If your old tablet looks like a baked potato about to burst out of its skin, stop charging it. It's not pregnant with new apps. Toss that puffy, untrustworthy matchstick away before it creates human finger tempura. Search "where can I dispose of lithium-ion batteries near me" into any internet search engine.

So, let’s play a game. Tag yourself in the comments. Are you the Blanket Incubator or the Gas Station Gambler? Or do you currently have a Power Strip Centipede weeping behind your couch? Don't be shy, we're here to help.

HELP US WISH FIREFIGHTER NICK PULEO GOOD LUCK!

After 8 incredible years of serving the Goffstown Fire Department, Firefighter Nick Puleo is hanging up his New England helmet and heading down to Texas! We aren't saying he's leaving just because he couldn't handle another New Hampshire winter... but the timing is highly suspicious.

Nick has been an invaluable asset to our department and the Goffstown community—even receiving the Lawrence A. Volz EMS Heroism Award and Captain Steve Tower Firefighter of the Year Award along the way.

We are truly going to miss his dedication, skills, humor, knack for working more hours than a clock allows, and his unique ability to inspect apparatus chassis without even having to bend over.

We put together a few SHORT but critical safety reminders for his big move:

- The Shift Change: We hear Texas fire stations are massive. We just hope his new Lieutenant knows that he's accustomed to being carried around in a tactical baby Bjorn at shift change.

- The Crosslays: We are actively praying your new department provides a trampoline so you can finally reach them.

- The Gear: Good luck convincing your new shift that your turnout coat isn't a trench coat.

- The Bunkroom: If you get assigned the top bunk, make sure to rig a rappel system before you go to sleep. It’s a long way down for a midnight run, and gravity is a cruel mistress.

Thank you for 8 years of keeping Goffstown safe, brother. You will always have a seat at our kitchen table—mostly because nobody else can fit in the highchair we purchased.

In all seriousness, Nick, you’ve left a lasting impact on this department and the town of Goffstown, and while we love to tease you, your shoes will be incredibly hard to fill, mostly because, physically, they're just so small....

Drop your well-wishes, short jokes, and favorite memories with Nick in the comments below!

"RUH-ROH RAGGY" IT'S THE GOFFSTOWN "I CAN’T SEE A THING" FALL COMMUTE REPORT

Gotta love The Beatles... but when they sang "Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo… it’s all right," they clearly never tried driving down Mast Road at 7:30 AM in September.... Because it’s not all right.

It’s a direct, unprovoked solar attack on your eyeballs. Driving into a wall of pure, blinding white light while squinting like a confused meddling kid is not a valid traffic strategy.

Listen up Scooby, if you’re currently using your left paw as a makeshift welding mask, please read fast (if you still have eyesight left):

The Corey Hart "Sunglasses at Morning":
- Feeling like Velma? "My glasses, I can't see without my glasses!" Rescue the sunglasses you buried in July. Even the cheap, scratched gas station ones are better than nothing.
- Wipe the spooky fog off your windshield:
That thin layer of interior windshield dust turns into a glowing fog of absolute doom the second the sun hits it. Clean it, Fred!
- The Mystery of the Flippy Thing:
The sun visor above your head isn’t just for holding an emergency stash of Scooby Snacks. Lower it. You can even unclip it and swing it to the side. Welcome to the future Daphne.
- Don’t panic-slam the brakes:
Yes, you just flew into the heart of a dying star Shaggy. No, the road did not vanish. Please just ease off the gas instead of triggering a 12-car pileup. Zoinks!

Keep the bumpers attached to the Mystery Machine this week, Goffstown. Put the aviators on, clean your windshield, and don't drive by braille.

TOTO, I'VE A FEELING WE'RE NOT IN SUMMER ANYMORE! Goffstown, a rare September Nor'easter is headed our way. Mother Nature looked at the 603 and decided to throw hands.

Here's how to avoid a one-way trip to Munchkinland:

- The Backyard Space Program: Cape Canaveral is in FL not NH. Tie down your trampolines and trash cans. If your patio umbrella launches into Mast Road, GPD will likely ticket you for obstructing traffic.
- The Angry Twizzler: With the trees fully leafed out, branches will likely snap, power lines may come down. A wire on the ground is not a jump rope. It is highly angry, invisible electricity. Stay away and call us or Eversource.
- The Poltergeist Protocol: If the power goes out and you start having deep, philosophical conversations with a static TV screen while the generator runs in the kitchen, it’s not a ghost—it's carbon monoxide. Keep that machine outside so you don't hear a little voice whispering, "They're heeeere."

For those of you reading this outside of Goffstown who stumbled onto our page because you love this much sarcasm:

- The Seacoast "Johnny Utah" Guardrail: To those wanting to ride those 12-foot waves, DON'T. You are not Patrick Swayze, and this isn't the 50-Year Storm, Bodhi. The rip currents are vicious. If you paddle out into this mess, nobody is arresting you for violating the laws of physics—Vaya con dios, bra.
- The White Mountains "Everest" Alert: If you think hiking Mt. Washington this weekend sounds like fun, DON'T. Above tree line, this isn't "bad weather"—it’s a full-blown, Hollywood-budget Everest disaster flick. The summit will feature freezing temps and zero visibility in seconds. Sir Edmund Hillary you are not, stay off the peaks!

If you find yourself in actual danger, dial 911. If you are simply trapped inside for 48 hours without Wi-Fi and start painting a face on a volleyball just to have someone to talk to, please do not call our dispatchers. WILSON!!!!!!

ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY INSTALL A CHILD SAFETY SEAT IN ONE HOUR. NOT WITH TEN THOUSAND MEN COULD YOU DO THIS. IT IS FOLLY.

People of Middle-Earth, National Car Seat Check is this Saturday!

Installing a car seat without a certified technician is like a hobbit backpacking Mount Doom without second breakfast, as Samwise said, "it's a job that's never started as takes longest to finish"!

The Trials of the Car Seat Fellowship:
- The Contradictory Scrolls: You must consult the Vehicle Tome AND the Car Seat Manual. They speak in ancient riddles, actively contradict each other, and require a Ph.D in Elvish to understand.
- One Strap to Rule Them All: You pull the latch strap with the strength of Gimli, sweat pouring down your face, only for the base to still wiggle like a drunken hobbit.
- The Backseat Abyss: Beneath that plastic fortress lies a wasteland of fossilized Cheerios and dried raisins. It looks less like a family sedan and more like the Mines of Moria. "We cannot get out. They are coming....
- The Law of the Chest Clip: The clip must sit at armpit level (of the child you silly hobbitses). If it is resting on their belly, your little Frodo is going to escape to Bucklebury Ferry.

Seek the Wizards:
Do not journey alone. Keep your "precious" secure by letting the Elves of Safety look at it for free. Reach out to our friends at the Goffstown Police Department or the Bedford Fire Department, NH as they perform these inspections year-round.

May the force be with—wait, wrong franchise. FLY, YOU FOOLS!

We LOVE trainings that require clearance from air traffic control!

If you see our massive ladder truck extended all the way to the heavens around town this Tuesday and Wednesday, do not panic. The machines have not risen, and AI hasn't assumed control of our fleet!

Our firefighters are just undergoing intensive aerial training with renowned Truck Tactics. We're practicing high-angle rescues, precision ladder placement, and the highly technical skill of concealing our legs playing the maracas at 100 feet in the air.

Specialized Aerial Training Disclaimer:
- What is the training for?
Practice for those ultimate "hard-to-reach" places. Think of this truck as the world's most aggressive backscratcher for that one maddening itch right between your shoulder blades that you normally rub against a doorframe like a desperate grizzly bear.
- This is a low-budget operation.
There are no A list Hollywood cameos, no stunt doubles, and absolutely nobody is doing a superhero jump off the top. Mostly because that isn't covered by insurance and our backs would instantly turn into dust.
- In flight meal anyone?
We begged. Offered a $50 tip. But no food delivery service will launch a burrito out of a t-shirt cannon or hire an acrobat to hand-deliver a pizza into the ladder bucket.
- Eyes on the road, rubbernecker!
If you Tokyo-drift into a mailbox while you were busy squinting up at us, we will have to come down from our majestic sky castle to fill out paperwork, deliver a "we aren't mad, just disappointed" speech, and take your keys.

Ultimately, we train on the ladder for one reason: total emergency versatility. Whether we need to argue with your judgmental cat who refuses to leave its tree-gargoyle perch or pull Santa Claus out of a chimney because he underestimated the post-cookie bloating—we are ready. Please focus on the road ahead while we master the world's coolest multi-tool.

ATTENTION ALL FAIRYTALE THINGS

If your home suddenly smells like Shrek’s swamp after a night of mean Weedrat stew, we need to talk.

Unlike Shrek's badonkadonk, natural gas and Propane are actually odorless. Utility companies add a weaponized stench called mercaptan to it so you can sniff out a leak.

"But Lord Farquaad, I just got my propane tank filled!"

Plot twist:
Propane tanks can play mind games with the scent. You are most likely to get a concentrated dose of pure swamp-funk if:
- Your tank ran very low or empty. When a tank sits empty, moisture and rust can build up inside. That sneaky rust chemically absorbs the mercaptan, masking the smell. But when a fresh delivery stirs things up, or as the tank empties out, that trapped, chaotic funk can suddenly release all at once.
- It’s a brand-new tank. Fresh steel can temporarily absorb the odor, making the smell unpredictable.

THE GOLDEN RULE: Unless the Onion Carriage delivery truck is actively idling in your driveway, WE DO NOT GUESS.

If you smell the funk inside, do NOT do any of the following:
- Do NOT flip a light switch.
- Do NOT let Donkey make waffles.
- Do NOT light an earwax candle to "fix the vibe."
- Do NOT text Lord Farquaad from the couch asking "u smell gas?"

A single static spark can send your roof into Far Far Away. If you smell it, use your legs:
- Get out of your swamp.
- Get far away.
- Call 911 from OUTSIDE.

"That'll do, Donkey. That'll do."
