Goffstown Public Library Changing Lives for Over 100 Years! The topics of discussion will be set by the Library Director, and it is expected that comments made will be on-topic.

The purpose of this page is to allow and encourage the Goffstown Public Library to communicate with the public and with other libraries about topics of interest to the Library including its services, events and other Library news. Curious about how elections work? On Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Sisco will join us virtually for a clear, nonpartisan overview as we walk through voter registration, different types of elections, where New Hampshire stands in the primaries, and what happens behind the scenes when votes are counted.

Bring your questions and leave feeling informed and ready to participate. Dr. Tauna S. Sisco is a Professor of Sociology at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. Registration required at the library's online calendar or by calling us at 603-497-2102.

Libby now offers more controls to choose which titles you see. By default, all titles are visible. With Content Controls, you can filter titles based on audience or AI contributions. The video in this post, provided by OverDrive, explains your options.

To get started, open the Menu, then Settings > Content Controls. You will then see "Audience" and "AI Contributions" choices for your filters. Audience is defined by the publisher: Juvenile, Young Adult, General Content, Mature Content, and AI Contributions categories are Text, Audio, Graphics, and Translations. Within the AI Contributions settings, there is an option for "Deep Search Only." Titles in the Libby app are selected by librarians throughout NH. If you want to ensure all of your filters affect all visible selections, this setting should be OFF.

These features are specific to the Libby app only. If you need assistance, help screens are available in the Libby app, and library staff are available during open hours.

If you’ve borrowed a museum pass, participated in a gingerbread decorating workshop, or enjoyed a summer performance on the lawn, it’s thanks to the Friends of the Goffstown Public Library! They work hard year-round to raise funds for programs and items outside the library budget.

During the week of October 18-24, we'll be celebrating the Friends and their invaluable contributions as part of the 21st annual National Friends of Libraries Week celebration.

The Friends, a 501(c)3 organization provide:
• all the library’s passes to museums and outdoor spaces (at an annual cost over $5,000),
• furniture in each department, from easy chairs to portable tables,
• Summer Experience program support, including sponsoring performers,
• funding for youth and holiday events,
• ongoing book sales (on the third floor year-round and twice a year on the lawn),
• beautification of the library grounds each spring,
• and a presence in the Library and the greater Goffstown community.

If you're not already a Friends member, it's the perfect time to join!
• Attend one of their monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of every month.

National Friends of Libraries Week is coordinated by United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate, and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library Trustees/board members, advocates, Friends Groups, library Foundations, and those who work with them into a partnership that creates a powerful force for libraries.

Save the date for a visit from Author Brian Fleming on Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Fleming will join us to discuss his new book "The Solution Trap: A Guide to Better Decision Making," which exposes a hidden pattern behind many of the most expensive and disappointing decisions in higher education. "New learning models. Structural reforms. AI-powered everything. Across colleges and universities, leaders are surrounded by solutions. Yet the same problems persist. What if the real problem isn't a lack of solutions? What if it's how decisions get made under pressure?" Drawing on decades of experience advising colleges and universities, Fleming offers a human-centered approach to pause and define the right problem before committing to an answer.

Brian Fleming, Ed.D., is a Goffstown resident, author, and higher education advisor who has worked in the field for more than 20 years. His book explores why organizations so often rush toward solutions before fully understanding the problems they are trying to solve.

Mark Your Calendars for the Friends of the Library Book Sale this Saturday, October 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

NEW LOCATION FOR 2026: Lot on the corner of Elm and Maple Streets.

The Friends of the Goffstown Public Library Book Sale is your chance to browse thousands of books, CDs, and DVDs, and take home great bargains. Come early for the best selection!

1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. is the $10 bag sale - bring your own reusable bag.

Volunteers for this event are needed. The Friends are asking helpers to sign up via their SignUpGenius link (see the library's online calendar for details). Assistance is needed for a variety of jobs through 10/18, during the day and some evenings.

Fundraisers like the Book Sale help the Friends of the Goffstown Public Library fully fund the Museum Pass Program.

The Book Sale takes place during the Goffstown Main Street Program Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Regatta weekend. Keep an eye out for traffic detours on your visit that day.

Led by Brenda Jones, PT, M.Ed., CYI, CRQTC. Brenda comes to us from Balanced Living Arts, a group dedicated to blending practices from yoga, qigong, and mindfulness to help optimize overall health and resiliency. This session draws on these traditions and Brenda's experience teaching their core tenets.
